I had to run a few errands yesterday, the weather was nice, and the Whizzer was asking to "taken out on a ride". I added some air to the tires because I had previously let out a little to soften the ride on the last trip on neglected streets. The Whizzer responded by running strong and happily never missing a beat.
I went first to BICAS, a co-op of sorts that supports the bicycling community through education and parts recycling. They have helped me in the past with parts for my elderly buddy's Rollfast trike. The place is hidden in the basement of an old warehouse adjacent to the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks and passing trains are not only heard, but felt as they rumbled into and out of Tucson. The entrance and outside courtyard are decorated with whimsical art murals and sculptures made of recycled bike parts.
Inside, is the largest inventory of used bike parts I've ever seen in my life. There was a beehive of activity throughout. Despite the activity, I was warmly greeted and invited to browse and photograph anything. I talked to Troy, the guy "in charge". He is friendly and helpful and patient with anyone that comes in. I have never felt so welcome in any bike store as I did in BICAS, and it's not even a "store". I photographed many bins, crates and shelves of just about anything bicycle. One sign gently reminded people to check their pockets for tools, just in case they forgot! Yes they provide free use of tools and shop space for DIY ers. Anyone even mildly interested in bikes should visit BICAS while in Tucson. I cannot praise them enough.
About a half mile away is Spooky's Tucson shop. I rolled up across the street and noticed it was kinda quiet there. It wasn't until I approached the doorway that a sign on the door reminded folks that the shop was open for walk-in business from 4PM to 7PM weekdays, and 11AM to 5 PM on weekends. Any other visiting hours are by appointment only. Since I was there at 3PM, I decided to continue on my way. As i was ready to mount up two MBers on two strokes came blasting right on past the shop. One rider saw me or the shop and turned around to ride up and dis mount. We introduced ourselves to each other, then proceeded to talk shop. He was using his cell phone to contact his friend who hadn't noticed his missing companion. After a few minutes the other rider rolled up, we talked for some time about MBs. They admired the Whizzer and I admired their two stroke bikes, both lightweight, strong and fast. About that time, a couple guys parked a truck across the street and jogged up to us. They were from Phoenix and had driven down to pick up their Spooky creations. They were excited about being MBers and were an hour early. I was going across town to finish some more errands and they, to the library. The guys from Phoenix decided to get some eats. As we all departed, the two riders and I formed a small swarm for about a half mile, getting a lot of looks from envious cagers.
A few miles later I was westbound on Ft. Lowell road and saw two different MBers at a stop light. I rolled up and complimented them on their nice bikes. They glanced over their shoulders and nodded. When the light turned green, one of the guys throttled up zoomed way out in front. The other guy was a little more slow going and we rode along for about a mile before he turned off onto a side street. During that short ride I saw four, yes 4, electric bikes along various parts of the neighborhood.
I went home, the Whizzer easily doing 30 and asking to be throttled up, but I only briefly let her stretch her legs. She didn't like patiently following a two stroke at 19 MPH and breathing the fumes, but I told her it's only polite and sometimes others had to do that behind her companion, the 50cc two stroke Puch moped.
I took a number of pics and will edit this epic post later with added pics as soon as my ever patient wife can show me for the 10th time how to do such daunting technostuff.. I saw a total of four two strokes and five electrics yesterday. I'll dispense with the times and locations.

I'm now going to get my buddy's trike today, load it into the back of my truck and take it to Spooky to let Fred diagnose the control box, my buddy tried to fix it, again...he has called my phone six times since I started this epic post...gotta go.
I took a lot more pics, these don't really show the vast inventory of parts, used bike for sale and rent, the hundreds of wheels, the frames, the classroom...and the Pee Wee Herman figure lurking behind one of the counters
