I purchased this chain tentioner from a member of this site. I forgot his handle but I be live his name is Tad and his eBay name is Turbobuick1. It works extremely well! I highly recommend everyone who owns a motorized bicycle to throw away the stock frame mounted tensioner and invest in one of these. It is completely trouble free, no need to check tightness of bolts and no worry of chewing into your spokes. Plus it looks like it belongs on the motor instead of an ugly part that looks like it dosent belong. I requested a blue wheel to match the upcoming paint job. For a couple extra bucks and a little pacience he pulled thru for me. Priced reasonable on eBay for $35. This is the cats meow for any motorized bicycle rider. Thanks Tad! dnut

Yep, got about 400 trouble-free miles on mine. It's also amazing how much quieter it made my bike!

We buy a lot of gadgets for our motorized bikes but I think TurboBuick1's chain tensioners are a genuine "Innovation".
The kit chain tensioner is actually more of a chain guide; rather than chain tensioner.

I own a motorized bicycle and it won't bolt up to mine. Why? (rotfl)

Dang..guess I'm missing out!

Exactly why I refuse to call it a tensioner, have called it idler wheel instead.

I'm still using mine......it's got a lot of miles on it now!!

With that being said, you'll still want to get your chain with as little 'slop' as possible. As for "jumpstarting", I don't know exactly what you mean. You still should pedal as you let out the clutch to start the engine.

Best of luck in your adventures!

I try my darndest to not use any guide or tensioner at all. This can be accomplished with half links on either side, trimming rear motor mount block and/or different sprocket combinations on the pedal side (if using a coaster brake wheel). I find the bikes with vert drop outs are the most difficult to make both chains happy together. In these instances I use turbobuick1 spring loaded tensioners with mapbikes cut rollers on them. So far the 4 bikes built with this set-up have been reliable, trouble and worry free solutions.

more info on installing a happy pair of chains can be found here

I'm sure there are other ways to avoid that nasty kit chain tensioner, which I highly advise.

I've never been a fan of any spring loaded chain tensioner.
When you let off the throttle, the top part of the chain will flop without any tension on it!

This was my concern.

Now that i think about it though, If the the half links get the slack minimal, then i would think this chain flop in top of chain would be minimal. ?..

Allen do you have a reference for this setup, cant match parts to names? "turbobuick1 spring loaded tensioners with mapbikes cut rollers on them"

Was looking at theses half links. Anyone know other suppliers of them?

I would pm either or both and talk on phone. Both do PayPal

Comment about topside chain slack at deceleration. Yeah a drawback, possibly. If your building a bike even one, you should have a chain breaker. A necessary, cheap tool. Idea is to use as little amount of chain as possible. TB1s tensioner has adjustable spring end locations on the arm. I like them and not a problem with any install.
