Another B.T.R. Build.......

I stuck a bicycle seat on for a test fit, it looks much better with a rider...

I decided to try making a seat pan this afternoon, First I cut a template out of paper, traced it onto some scrap sheet metal I had, and cut it out.

Next, I very carefully and scientifically bent the piece to form the curves (i.e. found random round things around the shop to bend it against)

I than made some tabs to strengthen and hold up the rear end and welded them on.

Not a whole lot of progress on the bike lately as I'm sort of waiting to buy the cvt before I do much more, I did finish up the seat pan though. I also got the frame mounts started.

I've also been learning how to hand stitch leather so I can make the cover for the seat when I'm ready.

Well done on the fab work, I'm well impressed with the quality of the word you lot are doing.
 
Small update: I finally got the mountain bike shocks I ordered, took a long time to ship from China. Today I made some tabs and tacked them on, they are much stiffer and some what adjustable too. I think these will work fine...

I got sick of finding things to lean the bike on while working so I tacked up a quick drop stand, this also means I can drag the bike out of the shop for pictures now...

JTS, how's the seat coming along? I decided to take your advice and build a seat. I have no clue how I will attach it to the metal pan though, any advice? I was thinking rivets from the bottom.
 
I haven't made much progress lately, I was in a car accident a few weeks ago and have been dealing with insurance, etc. It's almost over though. What I plan to do on my seat is to cut a top and bottom piece of material, spray glue them to the pan to hold, than sew both pieces together around the pan. From looking at real Messinger seats, I think that's how they did it too. I'll hopefully work on it in the next week or so and be sure to post pics.
 
Progress!! Well, a little. I started covering my seat, it went surprisingly fast and easy. I still need to sew the outer ring and trim the flaps down to the right shape/size but overall I'm pretty happy with it so far. Unfortunately I was so caught up in working on it that I forgot to take pictures as I went, but what I did is cut two large pieces of material, cut slits for the bottom of the seat, spray glued that piece to the bottom, than spray glued the other piece to the top. I than hand sewed around the seat pan, pulling the material tight as I went...

Effin Cool!!!! I picked up an awl as well a couple weeks ago and plan on doing somthing similar on an upcoming build. VERY COOL

Yea, you can see in some of the previous pictures that there are bright green and orange padding on the seat, these are gardeners kneel pads/ mats from the hardware store, they are closed cell high density foam that's about 1" thick.
 
JTS, where did you get the leather for your seat? I built a seat pan which turned out better than I hoped for but I'm stuck on the material to cover it with...
I'll post pictures of it soon!
