All true!
I have gone 55 mph, down hill, without an engine. I crashed. I hit the gaurdrail on the outside of a turn and flew over it, and a cliff. I landed at the bottom, saved only by the thick underbrush and briars. I was almost naked! I had cuts and scratches from head to toe.

My bike was ruined.

I will never go 50 on a bicycle again.

Ive odne 57 using only a steep hill and chevrolegs. wheel was wobbling, well not wobbling per-se, BUT acting like it waas, basically imminent loss of control. i finished run without incident. never went that fast again.duh.

Joe, you are a VERY lucky person! I bet you didn't even have your cape on for that flight either, did you?

It got torn off after the first few feet of trees/briars/ect. I even hit a tree that was about 10" in diameter...good thing it was rotten and dead, I took it out like it was a toothpick.

Did I mention I crashed due to a woman coming the other way that was across the centerline and almost crashing her car? I stood the bike up so I didn't hit her head on, and in doing so, I made a very late apex and caught the gaurdrail. It did whack my knee pretty good, and Dad yelled at me for ruining the bike.

But I digress.....yes, I have always "been lucky".

I went about 40mph on my bike when I first got it up and running (my street is on a slight slope) and turned into my driveway, which is loose dirt. The back tire just kinda flung around and I fell off and started laughing. Kinda hurt, but I learnt not to do that.

I'm running a GP460 engine friction drive on a gary fisher mountain bike, and with the motor totally stock it will do 45mph pretty easily, I never go faster then that though, the bike gets pretty shaky

try doing this to your bike lol. I used to have this thing geared so that it would do over 70 mph, but I was afraid of it. Now it's geared for about 52 mph and I have a lot more fun on it. I'm running armadillo street tires, which still shake at speed, but probably won't fly apart.

I'll see if I can get a video of it online. I agree, the reach is a little longer than normal, but it's surprisingly comfortable. This was an experiment to see if I could make the design work. It obviously still needs some bugs worked out, but its one heck of a ride. .shft.

i go 70 with a 44 tooth.....oh its true....i know the secret to ballancing a 1 cyl motor and i can tack 20,000rpm and the motor is still pulling...i choose not to do it though cause the coaster brake scares me.....now i only go that fast while rescuing babies from burning buildings and fighting super criminals...you know my normal day to day life....where there is trouble youll find noco and his super powered motorbike...my tip to any nubs is to use your new powers for good

I tried motorizing a road bike a few years ago. Frame held the motor just fine, but I was popping tires about every other day and I broke several spokes out of my rear wheel.

why were you popping tires were they inflated all the way??? and what gauge pokes did that rim have and were they the reason you were loosing tires... hey were these those really expensive tapered spokes....ive seen them where they are 14 gauge or so at the ends and 18 or so in the middle....dont quote me on the gauges

I can say with the help of my buddy Andrew from Kings Sales & Service, I finally hit the 50+ mph mark. My bike was hitting mid forties with a 47 tooth sprocket. Andrew was kind enough to sale me one of his clearance sprockets (Probably the nicest one I've bought so far) a 38 tooth hardened sprocket. It's pretty insane hitting those speeds and flying by cars on the expressway and the look of the peoples faces in the cars are priceless!.fly.
If you do hit these speeds...PLEASE Wear your Full Face Helmet!
For those who haven't seen my bike before, here's what I have:
5.8hp 50cc Morini 2 cycle motor, 6.4 hp ignition and flywheel. Pipelyne tuned pipe, carbon fiber reeds on an aftermarket reed cage and a 38 tooth King's sprocket on a GT LTS frame with the rear suspension locked out.

Thats one AWSOME BIKEbrnot

Yea well I have done 80kph on mt bike I had 66CC that ran through a jack shaft then through a 8 speed shimano internal hub. mind you I did melt the head gasket. and had a very slow ride home.

Remember if you go fast you need to be able to stop!!!!!!!!

Good Luke from down under.

I had my 80cc chinese motor on a nineties cannondale with regular old road bike rims (not the tapered spokes). I think the torque on the rear spokes from the sprocket may have tweaked the spokes enough so that they were stabbing into the tube. Anyway, I don't think that road bike tires are heavy duty enough to support the extra weight and speed of a motor. Hope this helps.
