29" beach cruiser at w mart

I've had a 29er for over 7 months now, first powered by a HS49 with a gear type hoot(Agggg) switched to a Q-matic, Ahhhh!! Then went to the HF99 Predetor, I clean the bearings allot in the winter(sand etc) like 2x a month, no problems so far, the rear brakes S%#s, so I added a 26" front end with v-brakes, stops pretty good now, I've inspected the welds visually, seem good, I will do a further inspection when I strip it to do a repaint. I did read in this thread about the tires, called them and they sent me 3 tires 2 stock and 1 MTB tire, the stock tires have some chord issues, but the ones they sent were freebies. I like the size of the 29er, full fenders are nice for wet/snow(reinforced) Ido like that Laid back seat post in an eairlier post... Good riding!

I just built one for a customer of mine. The Handle bars will have to be swapped out because throttle wont fit. 29" Wheel makes it a dog, unless you go with a HUGE sprocket. Also it's a challenge just getting the stock sprocket centered and secured, it's a 48 spoke rim. I installed a 4 stroke on it, which also was a hassle. Mounting plate had to be re-drilled. It was a fight at every step. I offset the cranks with a torch, square taper. It work good. The bike it really tall. Coaster will need to be changed. Front brakes will be difficult to install, but needed. I received a text from customer last night, saying how much he enjoys the bike. This morning he called me and said it was stolen last night in front of wally world. They cut his krypto lock. I would have never left any motorbike in front of wally world unattended. You cant teach stupid.

Also switched to a 48T sprocket which lowers the top speed slightly - now getting 25-30 on the flats - but has more pull on hills. One thing I notice with these Chinese motors - the head bolts need frequent re-torquing.

Andrae, Very nice. Is that an aftermarket carburator and intake manifold? I'm thinking of upgrading my stock carb but don't know which is best to switch to.

Very happy with it's outcome both in appearance and performance. 1st thing I did was add a front side pull caliper brake with lever going to the right side of handlebar. Bolts right on to the forks where the finder bolts on. Cut two slots out of the fender to accomodate the caliper squeeze. Brakes work just fine. Fitted the rear sprocket with the rag adaptor using 6 bolts rather than the 9 supplied because of the spacing of the 48 spokes. Changed the seat and post to a lay back design. removed all the silly stickers and logos repainting it black. Replaced the plastic B&W pedals with all metal ones. Added center kick stand.
Added Nitto handlebars powder coated black and installed Triumph grips and levers to give it a more BTR look. Rear light has working directional signals and brake light. This is a great bike for taller riders - I'm 6'4" - 200 lbs. It gets up to 30-35 on the flats which is plenty fast with the 44T sprocket but thinking of going to 48T to get more pull on steep hills. Hope this answers some of the questions I've seen here regarding brakes and rear sprocket.

Just the stuff that came with the kit!I think its a cns with no air adjustment screw.Starts right up in the cold,but seems to run lean on full rev.Have you had any problems with the stock tubes going flat?
 
Andrae, Nope, no problems tubes going flat. I have 72 miles of black top riding on mine. But would like a better carb. It kind of sputters on full throttle but runs smoother when I back off a little.

Hey Jake - it's a regular lay back seat post for a BMX that I modified using a grinder with a cut off wheel. I cut a piece of the small support tube off from the lower part of the post where they are welded together. Grinding the seat post smooth so that I could lower it as much as possible into the down tube. I left just enough of the small support tube to rest on the frame for extra support.
 
The rear sprocket that comes with the kit has 9 holes and designed for wheels with 36 spokes. The 29" wheel has 48 spokes. Couple of ways to solve this. 1 - only use 6 of the sprocket holes, leaving every 3rd open. 2 - use smaller nuts and bolts to fit between the spokes. 3 - the best way is to get a billet sprocket adaptor that wraps around the hub. Pirate Cycles has an excellent one.

You can get them on! Just takes a little patients. Run the bolts through all hardware one at a time leaving the nuts off until you have worked them all through. After bolts are through hardware and spokes. Install nuts one at a time in a star pattern. You will have to work the sprocket back and forth through this process for centering. Be sure not to over tighten nuts. Tighten until snug ( sprocket not moving ) then give a half a rotation. Over tightening will cause your hub to not spin freely. Good luck

I looked at a Thruster Genesis 29'er MTB today at wallyworld and was wondering if an HT could be stuffed in there. $200 for the bike seemed like a gud deal!
My kid really likes his 29'er MTB, but I ain't EVEN gonna spend what he did on a bike!

I saw the genesis too However I was reluctant to buy because i figured with all the features on it the component wouldn't survive in the Florida Sun and Rain
 
pino.I saw this bike on-line and thought it looked cool. Went to Wally World to see it for myself. Looks even better in person. Ended up taking one home and had a DAX FD mounted on it within a couple of hours. Just had to drill one hole to mount the drive housing on the bike. Must say though that the wall thickness of the tubing is thinner than the Schwinn Point Beach Cruiser. I think I'll pick up another one and slap a 4 stroker in there, install front brakes, poo pipe, chrome air cleaner and an ape hanger for the "Chopper Look".
