I am in the process of mounting a 99cc Predator engine on my frame. Has anyone mounted the engine with the cylinder in a vertical position? I know that the 212cc engine has been mounted with the cylinder in a vertical position by members of this Forum.

Any input or helpful information would be appreciated. Thanks
I grabbed this from a different thread, but I've been wondering the same thing as well as how it would fit in the Onyx frame. I bought one of these and want to stick a 99cc Preddy in it along with a suspension fork of some kind. I already have the Genesis 29er 36 spoke rims.

Just a word of warning to anyone planning to buy this bike . This bike was my 1st build and was a real pain every step of the way but after getting the job done it rides beautiful and looks cool . After putting around 20 hours on it i blew out the rear bearings and cracked the hub . That's when I found out YOU CANT BUY REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THIS BIKE !

When i had damaged parts they sent me a 100 dollar check and the mail and told me to take it to a shop to fix it. I bought my own part and fixed it. What they didn't know was it my pedal that broke! Lol. So I got 85 bucks out of it so I was happy.

Hi there. I have been reading this forum for months and felt like I should introduce myself. I have built one of these bikes as well as two schwinns. It had its set of challenges, one of them being the rear hub and the sprocket hole spacing. The other was the gas tank studs being too short. The hub was remedied by making a plate to distribute the clamping force over the entire rag joint and the tank was fixed by flipping the gas tank clamps upside down and strapping the tank to the bike using plastic handcuffs. Most law enforcement stores carry them. It's surprising how much clamping force they have. All in all, it took about five hours to complete and came out looking good (in my opinion)

I've read all the threads in this post...as I have a 29" onyx on delivery site to store @ Wally World. I haven't ordered an engine yet, but know that I will be ordering a "Billet Sprocket Adapter" from pirate cycles and some front brakes. (considering pilfering from one of my other bikes, that haven't been stolen yet, if they will work) The law here in IL dictates that it's under a 1 HP engine (I haven't had a license in about 13 yrs., nor do I want one) however I've never seen a 1 HP engine? The closest was 1.10 a chinese made 48 cc. After reading other sites, I'm not sure such an animal exists. (I'm not too surprised due to the inadequacy of IL state gov.) Does anyone know if this size motor really exist? Anyway, thanks everyone for sharing, it will undoubtedly help when my 2 wheeler arrives!

My 1st and only build is an Onyx . Although I wish I had chosen a more simple bike for a 1st build I love it . It turns a lot of heads . I'm on my 5th tank of gas and ride it quite hard . I have yet to have any problems with the structure of the bike . I did blow out the rear bearings but that wound up to an oversight of my own and after getting in touch with Kent they actually sent me a brand new rim at no cost and no questions asked . Actually the only problems I've had are with the cheep motor I bought and the state that I live in wanting me to register the thing as a moped .

I haven't gotten that far yet but I'm sure the 48 spokes is going to be a problem but I think manic makes an adapter for that. I think there is probably enough clearance for the chain. The biggest problem I see is that the seat tube is 32mm and the downtube is 45mm. The bike is huge. As long as I have to custom fab motor mounts I think I'll put either a Lifan 2.5 or a Greyhound on it. I might try and adapt SBP front motor mounts to both the front and the rear. The handlebars are 25mm but choke down to about 22mm where the grips are. I think the throttle and clutch will go on without much problem. I'm still trying to finish up an O.C.C. Chopper so I'm about as tired of mounting problems as I'm going to get for awhile but all in all I think this project would be worth the effort.
This bike looks promising...It does have safety issues tho. Im just curious. Do they make tires , fenders etc. for these if you need them?...Ive never seen/heard of a 29 inch bike B4.

The 48 spokes isn't a problem, here's a solution. Skip every third hole on the sprocket. I have over 500 miles on my bike and haven't had a problem doing it that way. O and of course this bike has safety issues, it has a coaster break! I would strongly recomend going back to Walmart and returning the onyx for the genesis astra. It's thirty more but has regular brakes and even has gears.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you contact Kent ? Who did you speak to ? Did you have to read some numbers off your seatpost ?

(first build...3rd motorized bike) I got the Onyx 29" Beach Cruiser bike from Walmart...no instructions pertaining to the bike that was actually sent. NP, it was kind of intuitive and took about 45 minutes to put together & tighten up. After removing all the little white stickers all over the thing, I think it looks way cool. It's light for such a big bike (aluminum frame) and easy to pedal. I bought a Chinese motor from Bike Berry (BIG MISTAKE). When I opened the boxes it appears that the components spent some time in a Gorillas cage. More than 3 fins bent together, black paint on about half of it?? & the other areas chipped off (paid extra for the black...but they didn't bother with making the bent up chain guard black or the muffler), mounting screws....one was almost doubled over...some other parts weren't in the box, as far as the prick on the useless DVD....I could give him a slap'n! It displayed parts already together that came in pieces & he was working with a different motor. (I now am intimately familiar with how the carb & cable works together, thanks to an hour on the Internet.)
Anyway, I'm impatient and didn't want to return the engine if I could get the $204 piece of junk to work.
So it began...nothing about this 29" bike is standard or fits well with the "engine" I purchased. The handle bars on my onyx are straight 1" all the way through - apparently every handle bar in the known world is 7/8"?. Neither the clutch or throttle would fit. (which created creative struggles for me & my step dad, who has every tool in the world & way more mechanically inclined) The gas tank needed custom strapping, although I bought the U bracket to mount the motor, the rear, (bent screws weren't log enough..got pipe straps & drilled holes) The cables from the throttle to the carb were about 8" too short so had to splice some additional and solder them together. The rear fender rubbed on the chain as well as the rear fork. Had to cutout a section of the rear fender (Looks too cool to just remove) & had to adjust the chain guide about 5 times. (oh yeah, by the way you can only get 6 of the 9 sprocket screws on no matter how you hold your mouth :p)
Anyway, I could go on but will spare you. My first build was a nightmare but I did learn allot. We managed to bend /struggle / & modify EVERYthing to come to the point where I could peddle off in an attempt to start the motor. Which did start after the 5th attempt. It took 2 trips to Lowes and approx 11 hours.

I do however need a 1" twist grip throttle. The only ones I've seen online are for mini bikes. Would that work for my 1 inch bicycle handlebars? Right now I have a small pair of vice grips that I am pulling on. LOL not too safe!

Thanks

Thanks
Dirtbikes and such bars are 7/8 diameter, I know for a fact harley handlebars are 1 inch so a set of harley grips will work for ya

Yes, I agree with you about bikeberry. They are not helpful, they don't care, and they were total ballbags when I talked to them.

Thanks for the reply...do you think these would work?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-VINTAG...ies&vxp=mtr&hash=item4168944c2c#ht_500wt_1287

I kinda do but dang this project is killing me!! A second opinion would help me sleep :)

Also, the kill switch was faulty from Bike Berry, my step dad put a multimeter on it at an idle? I don't think I really need a kill switch...I'd just pull the clutch.

If the bike ran off into traffic by itself, it ain't mine!!! lol (I'd be in the weeds)

The kill switch diverts the hghi voltage from the plug to the chassis of the bike (ground) Ohm-meter check should reveal OPEN OR CLOSED

kILL switch is NBD if you KNOW it send the blue wire to the bike frame
