Price of diesel is quite thrilling these days isn't it ?
Currently a bit over 5 USD. Local BP diesel pumps used to stop at $100, paper note on the pump said $300 limit.
Does this forums management allow Memes? I got one you might get a kick out of Pete.
As for weather, I think as of Wednesday I will stop wearing long underwear finally.

Don't know if you noticed but I reopened a year old Huffy thread. It was my first go at motored bicycles

Mighty Dub Fest - Weekend family festival
10 to 15 quid per day just to walk in? Sheesh! Wished I was there.:)

Hey Tom, thanks for posting the Mighty Dub Fest link. Weather forecast for the coming weekend (not that I ever take notice of a forecast more than 24 hours in advance of anything) is favourable. BBC news this breakfast-time said we Brits can expect a 'heatwave'! Fingers crossed. Should be a good show after the event was postponed these last two years because of Covid.

The good news is Alnwick Castle is just across the main street from me here in town, so within easy walking distance. That said, I'm biking it on the Munro. Looking forward to the live music and pacing myself for an all-dayer on the beer - so no drink/drive hang ups. I'm nominating myself to be the designated cyclist for the post-midnight journey home. Shame my ACE isn't quite finished, otherwise I'd be up for entering it in the bike show. Speaking of the ACE, just got back from driving down to Bedlington to collect its left/right rear motor mounts which were waterjet-cut in 3mm (1/8") mild steel by Barrington Metalworks. Pic attached. Test fit planned for tomorrow - then if all's well, I'll paint them, together with the front & upper engine mounts, same green as the motor's cases.

Test fitting of the rear motor mounts went splendidly. Everything fitted as I hoped it would. These rear mounts secure firmly to the frame's bottom bracket, making for a lot more rigidity. Installing the bearings, collars and cross-shaft to convert the ACE's left side foot gear change to a right side hand shifter all went according to plan. Just need to shorten the cross-shaft to correct length and fit the shift lever to the right side. Thumbs up how this plan is coming to fruition. (^)

Thanks guys. Fitted the hand shift lever today. Just an off-the-peg cheapo lever sourced from eBay that I've used before on my Honda Solo's makeover. Works great. Shift linkage works slick as snot with no excess play. Next up? Need to drill a hole for a bolt in the right side rear motor mount to secure the foot brake's return spring.

Well, following a three week spell of Covid I'm finally starting to feel a spring in my step again. Three weeks today since I came down with the symptoms. Can only assume I contracted it during my visit to the Mighty DubFest. Can honestly say it's not much different to Flu-like symptoms really. Sore throat, extremely congestive chest and constant coughing I could deal with - but the total lack of appetite, loss of taste and severe lethargy hit me for six. Lasted way longer than I expected. Complete disinterest in food meant I lost 10lbs in weight in two weeks. Glad to say I'm over it, apart from the lingering chestiness and lack of energy.
Went online today and visited the Skyteam facebook group I'm a member of and saw a member's post mentioning this interesting bit of kit. This electric motorcycle kit looks almost identical to the crankcase on my 125 ACE. Could possibly be ideal for a vintage tribute build using one or two faux cylinders. I'm gonna need to find more details.

Damn the flu Pete glad you're feeling better.

I've been seeing this as a do it yourself conversion on Youtube for a couple of years and the Honda 125cc 5 speed is the typical case donor. I wondered if someone would eventually sell a kit and here it is. From my viewpoint it's a brilliant concept which seems to work well in the original cycle frame and with electric power up the 15 KW.
I see no reason it would not work well in a well built bike frame like your Ace. 5 speed and wet clutch 5kw should be plenty of power for a bicycle weight frame 125 lbs or so....

Adding cylinders to appear really vintage would be ideal. One practical use of faux cylinders is to install high quality fans in them to draw air over the motor for cooling. Another design could use one cylinder to house a pump motor and the other serve as a coolant reservoir with finned cooling.

Running big brushless power generates a substantial amount of heat with motors installed in an enclosed housing. I'd be interested in pricing and more details when you get them.

My Ol' Crow e-V twin on 72v with 100 amp controller would shut down on hot days pulling steep hills for a mile with WOT. I'm currently changing my motor mount position in the case to improve air flow over the motor and line up with the reduction sprocket I machined a few weeks ago. I believe that will be enough to cool 7kw continuous. If not I may go liquid cooling.

So you went to the Mighty Dub Fest super spreader and even paid 10 Quid to catch the bloody Covid?

I really like that neatly combined motor and transmission.
I'll be interested to learn what the power requirements are.

Tom
20 quid for the pleasure that Saturday, Tom. Big turn-out and some good bands to listen to. Wasn't anywhere near as many 'classic' beetles and vans as I'd hoped, But hundreds of high-end modern VW campers with a few garish customs amongst them. Pricey as they are, can't really get excited over those boxy 'California' camper vans. It's quite obviously a 'lifestyle' choice though, as there were plenty vans filling the site from all corners of the UK. Some even travelled from Europe.

After the longest run-up, looks like summer is about to show its face here. Someone on the weather forecast this morning said we could expect a possible 40+ degrees this coming week. That's unheard of hereabouts. Talk about one extreme to another.

It was 24C degrees here on the North EAST coast today - and that's the hottest we've seen this year. Rain due later overnight. Further south they're getting more of a heatwave. Londoners complaining about temps nearer 30C. Tonight's forecast on the BBC showed a map which limits the predicted 40C+ temps to be further south of us here in the NE. Fine by me. Not sure I'd cope well in temps like that. Heath risk warnings already flagged for large areas of southern UK. In preparation I've stocked the fridge with my preferred tipple - Pineapple & Passionfruit Cider. Hic!!! And plenty Hagen Daas Bailey's Irish Cream ice cream. Bring summer on!

Photos of lovely lasses dressed for the weather please.
I got the real deal Covid in April 2020. Headache? Horrid and I never get hangovers. Loss of energy, as in could hardly get out of my own way, for a bit coffee lost it's bouquet. Oldest son Derek has Long Covid complications, which coincided with his retirement from the Navy.

How ya doing Pete? NPR said your temps were going to get intolerable.
A cold front is coming in with rain 7/15 here in SE Wisconsin.
In the mean time, 25C and young lasses are togged to please the dirty old man in me. I do love Summer.

Tom
10am and 14C here Tom. Damp outside from overnight rain. (Soon as it dries up, I'm off for a scoot on the Munro). Should have learned by now that the 'intolerable' temps predicted by the BBC weather forecasters was meant for down south. As in London-centric. Usual BS. 23C-25C for the last few days here in Alnwick is as good as it gets. Record heatwave temps still predicted for southern UK from this upcoming weekend.
