I'm finally getting around to get the Boxer back into race condition for Willow Springs. From my last experience, I was geared way too tall using a 47 tooth rear sprocket. That along with a stock clutch which made my the first race there a disaster. That's tall considering I use a 52 tooth rear sprocket for Grange. After checking out all the sprockets at the shop, I came across a 57 tooth which will be my choice of gearing for this upcoming race. "Score!"

Since its going to be raining until the weekend, I plan on takin the cylinder and piston off of the air cooled motor and replacing the H2O cooled cylinder. I order a new ring and gasket kit for the top end.

I had a little bit of time to see if I remembered how to bolt everything back together. I got the motor and radiator back on in 30 minutes. I'm not feeling motivated to work on the bike before the race but I hold have it back together before the weekend. I was going to run it in the mid class but I didn't get my gasket kit so it looks like I'll be puttin around in the unlimited class.

Coming down the home stretch!

After a full day of work, spending time with the fam and taking the dogs to the dog park, I finally got another hour of wrenching in. I finished plumbing in all the lines, tightened up the motor, installed the exhaust and replaced the broken rear shock.
All that's left is adding 6 links of 415 chain, buying two 6mm allens for the rear brake and fluids and I'll be good to go. Tomorrow I should have it running and tested. If all goes well, I'll be heading south Friday afternoon.
One thing I hate is...THESE GASSERS ARE GREASY AND MESSING TO WORK ON! Haha

Your bike seemed to be running fine on race day....it was fun ripping around that track again with you Ken. It's always a pleasure hanging out with you and our other buds that just keep showing up to these events! Hope you had a safe drive home.

I look forward to the next event and hopefully many more to come.

I'll be showing up to many more events Scott. It was cool hanging out Friday night with Brian and you. I think I'll start coming on Fridays instead of Saturdays.
BTW: I used 12 gallons of gas on the way home! LOL

That is great gas mileage.....you're about 500 mi. away? I burned 15 gals. going home and I'm only 200 mi. from Willow :(

More like 312 miles away. Next time bring a trailer and ride the 28hp torque monster. I'm sure you can make it to Grange with 4 gallons.

Brakes.....

I've been out of the loop the last couple of years and I finally replaced the blown up clutch. The only part that needs up grading is my brakes before April's race. I seem to always pick the wrong disc brakes and after a race, both rotors are blue and the pads worn down to the metal backing. Does anyone have a good recommendation for quality brakes? My budget is $400-$500.

My LBS (Calabazas cyclery) recommended the TRP Slate T4. The mechanics there are downhillers. It's a 4-piston hydraulic $120 per wheel and you can use the heat sink Shimano Saint pads on it too, though I just stick with the stock pads at $16/pair. It comes with a bleed kit too! I bought a rear brake for the right lever and shortened the cable for the front. My all up weight with bike is 270ish and I top out at 55ish. Never had a blue 8" rotor, but I don't race either, although I do hwy 9 occasionally.

Thanks Tony, I started looking at pit bike brakes. With two rotors per wheel. It's tough because my bike's brakes work great for the first couple of laps then they start to heat up and then I start using my foot to slow down for the rest of the race.
