Wasn't looking for an apology or anything jut trying to be sure we all realize the differences in these engines, for this month any way. Who knows what will show up next month! Seems like every time I get a handle on the combinations another will trip me up.

Well, bottom line is when Im wrong Ill admit it, I always try to post or reply with things Im confident in knowing is truth and fact, but the human element we all suffer from makes it for certain that we will sometimes be completely wrong or partially wrong.

I believe a real man or woman is gonna step up to the plate and be willing to humble themselves and admit fault, I dont trust people who are unwilling to admit fault, usually they're cheats, liars and unreliable people on many levels who think more of self preservation than anything else.

I was wrong and Ill admit it sir, thank you for the "not looking for an apology" but when someone is dead wrong and everyone knows it, to not come forward and admit it just shows the true colors and gets you the arrogant idiot label either in front or behind your name.

Confidence is a good thing but pride is destructive in my opinion, some get the two confused like the "self asteem" mess we hear all the time, I believe self asteem is bad, but knowledge and confidence in ones ability with a good and greatful attitude is a good thing.

I got the same issues where it becomes hard to keep up with all the new stuff and how they're coming out each month or so too... what I may have been right about last month may not always hold true for this month or the next month over when it comes to these things so I try to keep a pile of parts at the shop so when I need an engine I got enough compatable parts to build one... Right now I got plenty enough jugs and pistons but need to buy a few more bottom ends... preferably 40mm but I can make the 38mm ones work if they got the short rods, if they're the long rod version I can still make these work but would need to buy at least 4 more pistons.
I really need to read up on what Duane is selling before I place any orders tho for sure...

I've noticed that he isn't showing to have any lower available right now and I also noticed that in the add for the lowers he has removed the part that said they were 38mm stroke lowers...Shrug?????

I have plenty of engines and lower currently, but I'd sure like to know if he plans to get some more of the 40mm stroke lowers and engines.

Wow... just saw that... he's still showing the lower but nothing about the stroke on it and the "purchase now" button is gone so I'm guessing he ran out of lowers already... Hopefully he gets more soon... and with the 40mm stroke.
I got 4 top ends ready to be installed but need to buy bottom ends for them, then I got 2 used 40mm bottom ends at the shop as well as a 49cc lower that's still usable so I need to get a 49cc jug and piston to get that one built back up, since it's just 49cc's I'll need to make this one rev high to get good power out of it and just gear whatever I put it in really low... I'm thinking about widening the ports to the limit on this one, using the NT Speed carb with a gutted fuel valve, then using at least a 50 tooth rear sprocket should make it perform well on a 26" bike, but if I can get a 24" wheel for the back it'll do even better as long as I can make it rev high.

the company you bought from in Canada is run by a total goof ass snake in the grass and if he thought he could get away with selling you an ice cream cone in January he would ... that top end kit you bought is for a GT5A ... normal everyday run of the mill 38mm stroke / 66cc Skyhawk motor.... the piston is proof as well .. bet it is 40mm ?? a Super Rat is larger ...the only thing he sells is the 66cc GT5 (and the 49cc)... I am about 99.9 % certain that he never even brought a Super Rat motor in .... I had talked too him last fall about them and he wasn't planning on bringing any in at all and was against the idea because he was over stocked with what he had already. His plan was ta sell what he had and quit the business.
I had ordered 8 kits and a little over $1000 in parts from him and received 3 kits and not even $400 in parts..the remainder back ordered... 2 1/2 months later when I called about it I was told that he no longer owned that 'cell' phone and that this person was sick and tired of getting his complaint calls !! Once I heard this I went back too emailing and still to this day have had no reply or product sent too me ... 10 1/2 months now !
So whether you got what you ordered or not is one thing ... but just be glad that you even got it would be what I would say !!
I have gained business from the Eastern provinces since last season and have heard all sorts of horror stories about him as well . So I guess there has been some good come from it although for a small outfit like mine the lost $$ did kick me in the a$$ a bit harder then I like !!

Ok heres an educated guess. If the rod is marked FM80 it should be the long rod GT5 crank(38mm stroke,114mm long) that's whats in my standard GT5. If the rod is marked ZAF80 then Im guessing its a 40mm crank as used in the GT5-SR Super Rat, that's whats in the picture if I am seeing correctly and they photoed the right parts.
So if you have a GT5 type engine with the FM80 rod, it uses the high pin piston and the 69.5mm jug. Thats what I have which makes it a GT5. I believe it would be the GT5A if it had the 40mm intake spacing.

The Super Rat adds 1.8mm to the stroke the jug is basically 1mm taller. In the pic it looks like it uses a low pin piston. This means there has to be a difference somewhere either in the case, or rod? Shorter rod, taller case deck, it is a new crankcase design so why not adjust case deck height.

Watch this vid. Fred is in the dark on the ZAF80 rod as hes never seen one and assumes it is the same length as the FM80 and uses the high pin piston. Maybe not. I bet the Super Rats are fairly rare as to the cost(WDs didn't order many) and they are not that common. Bottom line is I don think the GT5 38mm and the 40mm GT5SR parts will mix properly in any combination.

The ZAF80 ROD is also a 114mm rod and is used in the GT5 geometry engines and you have to use a high pin piston just the same as you do with an engine with the FM80 rod.

The GT5 38mm stroke engines I got from thatsdax both have the ZAF80 marked rods, these rod identify the rod as 114mm and the engine as being a GT5 38mm stroke.

Its the rods that are maked ZAE50 that identify the engine as a 38mm stroke but use the low pin piston just like a PK80 type and in these engines with the ZAE50 rod the piston is .062 below cylinder deck @ TDC when using the standard PK80 height cylinder.

gotta use a spacer under the jug... It could be done but not too practical unless you got a jug you really put a lot of work into and a bottom end that's not exactly compatible...

overall best combination to me is 110mm rod, low pin piston, 40mm stroke crank and the right jug done up right with good port timing.

i love the gt5 bottom with the long rod and high pin piston matched to a turned down pk 80 jug , by far the fastest reving motors i have ever built ... man do they get up to speed quick !

Long time no see... hope all is going well in your area... I'm in the middle of building a super rat right now but put the engine on hold until I make more progress on the stingray frame I'm putting it in...
My other engine was reving up past 10k rpm pretty easily thru a stock nt carb but the super rat will be getting a mikuni vm18 I picked up a few months back along with a kx65 pipe so I'm hoping for the same type of rpm but with a lot more power on this build.
