Thats the shift knob i was talking about matching hour glass inside,in the background..........Curt
You can barely see the hour glass and would miss it if you didn't say anything,now watch that start a new trend ! it is cool!!

Here is the hour glass from Curtis Fox pretty cool what do you think about that Whoza, think it would go good on yer build insted of a faux primer?(LOL!)

the most standard size is 22.2mm but the important thing is that the wedges are different also for the different wall thickness. Thats and awesome hourglass control.
I have seen the "Ely" bike pictures that Mr. B. had posted,and really liked the leather lace grips..
After staring at the rubber coke bottle grips that I had on the bike for awhile I decided they had to be replaced.
Found some brass tube that with a little internal sanding would slip snuggly onto the bars.
Picked up some suitable brass fittings from Home Depot and turned them into hand grip parts.
Also made some brass cable end ferrules.
Soldered the brass hand grip parts together.
Initial wrap with leather lace just to take a look.
Lace is glued, wrapped tight, covered in wax paper, then wrapped tightly with cord to "clamp" the lace until the glue sets.

Here is a set I made for Ol' Blue,slip on over rudder grips,different style then yours but so fun to create, they've been cut at an angle for the era in wich the bike was built for(late 30's-mid 40's) and a little secret, you can put a laquar over them it will put a satin finish to them and seals the leather to the grip for a little more adhesion and not so likely to un-ravel,either spray or brush just tape off brass ends, you can even get leather stain fairly cheap if? you wanted to change the color but I think they look cool the color they are.

I don't know what you paid for leather but I bought 18 sq. ft of black 1/16" thick at E.C. Leather in Tulsa for $1.40/ sq. ft. and Vanessa's upholstery did my 2000 1100cc Honda Shadow A.C.E. Cruiser solo seat for $35 and then the backrest and pillion for $25. She does all the local custom and vintage show cars. She is a national treasure.
Those grips are amazing. They remind me of my Dads old hammers. I think he still has one he restored one and the other is still original. Awesome work can't wait to see it all painted.
Don't know why but this reminded me of you, the skull shifter knob would look cool in the bug
