Is anyone, anybody building and/or planning to ride in the 49cc 4-stroke class? One bike does not make a class ... Looks like it's time to retire mine and concentrate on china girl and mid-class 160cc motorized bike.

And Happy New Year all!

There are some class and rule changes in the works so anyone planning
on changing motors and classes should hang loose for a while until we get
the adjusted rules in place.

I would like to talk to everyone who was riding in the 11 hp class or is
planning to do so. I have some ideas to get the 11 hp class back to
what it was supposed to be, fun and affordable.

Brian, I hope you didn't buy a GX 160 motor yet because it may be too
much motor for the mid range class.
If it was a GC 160 then that would be fine.

Dave aka Buck0 did the right and smart class swap using a GX 120 for
the Mid range class.

Nothing is built to race yet.

I am partial to trikes, we used to race ATC's before the fun police decided they were "unsafe".

Really, I just want to see the rules for the 2013 season before I start a build. It takes time to finish a race vehicle of any kind.

I do wonder why you say "No motorcycle tires". One of my bicycles runs motorcycle tires because I got tired of fixing flats in the desert. I traded some weight for reliability.

Thanks

B

I PMed you my phone # a few days ago. Did you get it?

I have a lot of questions about you wanting to race a trike that can only
be worked out on a phone call. No one has ever showed up with a trike
before and the issues are too involved to discuss here on this forum.

So, please call me 10am to 9pm and we can work something out.
thanks.

I would think for the sake of other trike owners that such is discussed openly, for their potential participation & contributions, even to assist other race events.

This thread for example: Rules For Racing... or even creating a new one, as there seems to be a need for clarification of existing rules as well as the discussion of new ones...

It'd be a shame to have someone build and show up, only to be disqualified for an unknown technicality TBH

All the rules and results will be posted here very soon when they get worked out.

I have been talking to as many of the current participants as possible.

Anyone who is actually going to come to a race is very welcome to get their
input in.

There are very few current rules and any changes that are being made now
will be not that radical.
We really don't have any technicalities and are not planning on adding any.

Simple rules, just going to keep it fun and affordable.........

I race with moped tires on my Morini, many others use moped tires also.
You may be the only gas bike at the April 13th race using moped tires.
I can only think of one other gasbike that used moped tires.
Did I miss any? Who are the many you speak of? :)

Thud started the trend with his ebike using Pirelli tires that fit 20"
bicycle rims.
Not many gas bikers want to build bikes that ride on little 20" wheels.

We are racing "Motorized Bicycles" and the "No motorcycle tires" is an
essential rule that prevents them from turning into motorcycles and
keeps the bikes looking like bicycles.
Also using motorcycle tires would add a lot to the cost of racing.

There is a strong consensus among the SoCal guys that it's a good rule
that isn't being changed.

There are a lot of bicycle tire choices that are being used successfully.

There is no problems with getting flats at Grange Motor Circuit which
is an asphalt paved track that isn't infested with thorns.

No Motorcycle tires allowed. Some Moped tires have been allowed.

The only other rules are that you have to have functioning pedals.

Catch cans are required on 4 strokes if they don't route the crankcase
fumes into the air cleaner.

Kill switches are required.

Common sense safety stuff like having ball ends on hand levers so they
don't hurt you and remove mirrors and tape over glass headlights, etc.

Good talking to you about the direction of the races the other day.

I just talked to Roland and Timm of BigBoyCycles and they are bringing
some very cool bikes to the April 13th race is all that I can say right now. :)

Timm is racing his 50 cc Chonda and it may give you a run for your money?
I am going to race a 49 cc 4 stroke bike too and The Aleman is promising that he will also be in the class with his 49 cc shifter bike.
Looks like we have a good basis for the class so don't give up now! :)

Shuttle buddy guys will be in the same class on their very fast 25 cc friction
drives so it will be some fun heated elbow to elbow racing........
