fatdaddy, have you ever approached a High Patrol motorcyclist? Those seem to be the most strict and ticket carelessly even for little mistakes.

all the CHiP's on bikes i've ever come across while riding my bike have had nothing but thumbs up for me.

i've cruised main street in HB alongside one, and never get anything but waves and thumbs up's from them.

when i went to court for the ticket that started this whole thread, i parked my bike with all the cop bikes, and they laughed when i told them why i was there, and they thought it was "chicken s***" for any cop to write me up.

it comes down to the cops and the locations. i ride in huntington beach all the time ( i work there) with no problems, whether i have a license plate or not.

newport beach is the only city i've been hassled in, and now that the cops know me, they just wave, or stop me just to talk.

they only time i'm going under 30mph is when i'm starting or stopping. i ride with cars doing 45mph all the time. the only time i'm in the bike lane is if everyone's speeding. as long as i can keep up with traffic, i ride in traffic. i stop at lights and signs, i use hand signals, and i ride as legal as i can.

the way i look at it is, if a cop is looking to pull me over, he'll pull me over whether i'm doing 50 or 20, just because i'm on a motored bike and he thinks i must be doing something wrong, even if i'm not.

i think one of the tricks is, don't look guilty. if you're cruising along at 45 and see a cop, smile and wave instead of slowing down and freaking out...

Hey, thanks for the good tip about not looking guilty... definitely will have to do that when I get my bike

I don't have a problem with lying, it's just that all the kits go over 30mph and to register your bicycle... you have to check a box that says your bike can't go past 30mph.

It's not like they're going to check my bicycle so it doesn't matter ;)

How about the non DOT helmet? Same thing? BTW, I was the guy at the Adams race track who went to get a flashlight when you were working on your top end. My name is Pat. Great event you put together! I owe you $5.00 for the pit pass.

the non dot helmet was the biggest fine. i dunno exactly the break-down, but i think it was 300 bucks just for that.

i brought a real helmet into court and the judge didn't examine it, just ok'd it. i was on the stand for less than 10 minutes.

thanks for your help! see ya at the next one...:)

I don't see very many bike cops here except city cops. Most Highway Patrol around here are in cars and they pretty much just ignore me.
And ya don't really have to lie on the DMV app. about GBH. Just leave the stock poopoo pipe on yer 66cc and you'll probably only get about 2 gbh out of it anyway. If ya don't believe me, TRY THIS. Take the baffle out of that POS pipe and notice the difference in performance, like night and day. A GOOD expansion chamber makes all the difference. I've got a cheap one, (like Luckyearlybird sells,) don't bother with them. They don't work well. SO, I just cut the heck out of my baffles and drill extra holes in it to increase flow. Their a little louder but the performance increase more than compensates. Just do it a little at a time. Ya don't want to get TOO loud and get the cops attention.
And also, do it AFTER you get it registered. Doing this MIGHT get it closer to 3gbh then around the 2gbh it probably is now. BUT, to let you know, This is ALSO illegal. Yer not supposed to modify yer stock exhaust. But I figure EVERY Harley on the street is louder than my bike, so put a big SCREW in em.

MysterySandwich,
It stands for gross brake horsepower.

Fatdaddy, if you are talking to me, it's funny how for my engine I can use a cheap exhaust and still ride circles around a china girl with an aftermarket exhaust haha. No offense, I know another member here achieved 52mph on this forum using the engine I have. It costs only $125 brand new for just the engine. That's a pretty bad a** speed for the price. He also said it's got excellent acceleration compared to any others he has. It's centrifugal clutch, so if you like pulling the clutch lever in then I wouldn't advise it for you since it does not have a need for a clutch lever. I have achieved almost 12k RPM on it, but it's rather loud.

Nope, Talking to MysterySandwich. But I would like to know what engine yer running. Might get one myself. I was just talking about the cheapo HT's. The stock exhaust is REAL restricted on most of them.

Hey gera, Couldn't figure out how to post pics in PM to show you what I'm talking about. My china girl is a 66cc on a cranbrook. My tadpole has the 49cc that I put the chamber on. It sure LOOKS a lot like your engine, but I guess you got the better one.

HOLD YER HORSES EVERYBODY, I just found something buried DEEP in the California Vehicle code I've never seen before. It wont affect everyone, but for those under 21, this sucks. See: CVC sec. 12804.9 (4) (i).

(i) A person under the age of 21 years may not be issued a class M1 or M2 license or endorsement unless he or she provides evidence satisfactory to the department of completion of a motorcycle safety training program that is operated pursuant to Article 2 (commencing with Section 2930) of Chapter 5 of Division 2.

Those classes cost around $250. So a poor dude thats under 21 is left out in the cold on this one. Did anyone else ever see this one? Or am I just a little slow on the uptake?

I saw this well before you did as I'm under 21, that is why I decided not to get an M class license for riding in CA, but just show them my ID like you are doing. If I get a ticket, well I have enough money to take the courses and fix the ticket.
Here in Sac the classes cost $150. But then again to take the classes you need a full set of motorcycle gear so that's another $300 :(. They don't provide you with any gear (helmet, gloves, pants, jacket, gloves, etc.). They only provide you with a beginner motorcycle to train on.

What, you don't have any gear?

No helmet, no gloves, no pants (I don't think they have to be leather) no jacket and no shoes that go over your ankle?

Good thing you have a really fast bike.

Good luck.
