Never tried it but I use Top Flite model airplane clear. It is fuel proof and comes in gloss or flat. It will stand up to gasoline, alcohol, nitro methane and just about anything you want to throw at it. It's available at most hobby shops.

I have had good results using clear engine enamel from NAPA on motorcycle gas tanks. Can't remember the brand, but it's not Rustoleum.

i just painted a tank with it the results were pretty impressive on gloss but the real test will come the first time i dump gas all over it. i have a brass garden hose bung fitting so getting gas in it without spilling is tricky without a funnel. heres a picture of the tank after i cleared it

I dont remember the brand, but i used engine enamel from advance auto to paint my frame. it comes in a lot of colors and any engine enamel should be fuelproof. my paint scratched during the rebuild, but I could just get another can of paint and repaint the scratches. just been too lazy, and this bike is getting a 99cc predator soon, so probably wait till after the predator install to repaint anyway.

I did a KBS coating on a Suzuki Jr. tank that went on my old blue Jag. It worked perfectly and is over a year old. The current owner has not had a problem.
From what I've read, the KBS is more impervious to the ethanol (alcohol) than some of the better known tank sealers. So far, so good. And it's easy to use.

lol,my tank was all scratched up ,paint was falling off new in the box.
i sanded and primed it,painted it flat olive green-krylon.
gas softened it .
cleaned it and sprayed tremclad clear, looks great, gas doesent seem to bother it anymore.

the ace hardware brand tool and equipment enamel is pretty tough nutz!
I;ve used it on several bikes, stands up to paint where the gas has totally eaten the one-shot pinstriping paint completely off...
...and it comes in nice colors!

I wonder how this clear coat would work on aluminum? I use my orbital sander to clean aluminum and like the look sort of sweral finish.but most clear coats the aluminum turns dark silver after a while................Curt
