i knew there'd be some grey area to my class suggestions...

the problem with it, is that we have to take everyone's word for what their bike's will do. and there will always be conflicts and questions.

the problem with letting your morini in with the faster 2 strokes, is i'm willing to bet your bike will out-accelerate a chinese smoker by a mile. someone could easily gear a bike to stay within the speed limit parameters, but outrun everything off the line and out of the corners.

on the other hand, though, it'd be fun to match up my bike against yours. and i know some other's who think the same way.

it's kinda like bracket racing, but without the handicaps and the dial-in.

another problem, is what about the guys on the lower end of the speed limits? say your bike has just enough mods to get it out of the beginner/cruiser class, but not enough to hang with a full built racer?

also, skill level plays into it. what about an inexperienced rider on a fast bike?

i need some more feedback from other racers to determine if it's a good idea to set up classes this way.

bottom line, is i want these events to stay fun for everyone, yet still challenging enough for the "serious" racer. i don't want the new guys to get scared off, or the hardcore guys to get bored.

ya can't please all of the people all the time...:)

this is the only aerial view of the track i can find.

i'm hoping to get out there to take some runs soon and i'll give my honest opinion as far as gearing goes. when i met with the owner of the track, i had a chance to walk around, and it looks pretty flat. no major elevation changes, no uphill straight-a-ways. right now, i'm not too sure what's gonna work best.

I'll race my bike in any class you want me to race it in however I would love to race with the fastest bikes because I want to see how my riding skills match up to some of the better racers like Luke, Paul ,Ice, that fast chick on the electric and Scotto. If I can race it in more than one class I'm cool with that too! :) I think to level out the playing field, maybe you can add more turns with only one straight. Luke's rocket is a great example. If it's less technical he'll run away with it. We need a neutralize to tame his insane top speed.
BTW: Thanks for hosting the races!

Nothing wrong with that.

Everyone would gear down by race2. I figure I could've passed another couple of racers at Willow Springs if I had geared down 10% instead of gearing to hit top speed on the straight. Racers will pursue gearing down until you'd have 20s, 30s, & 40-50mph sprints rather than 30mph, 45mph, and unlimited. Both are just as exciting plus you lessen the electric's broad torque band advantage

Most of the radar speed data already exists. Folks can adjust up or down a class after running a heat. Decent radar guns can be had for around $100 and would be fun when not actually on the track racing. Simple.

Isn't the big strive for CVT's acceleration more than top speed?

My 2cents is more racers in fewer classes as long as safe by not having the huge speed discrepencies.

I just wanna mix it up on the track. I like the all out full track aspect, Rolling Thunder! Then from this race take the top 30 and place them on the start line according to thier position in the Rolling Thunder race. This way you have a fun run Kamakaze race followed by race of the fastest bikes for the Ultimate Trophy. Whay do you guys think? Besides that run some china girl and 4 stroke heats and maybe a low power class for the not so serious. I prefer the Tuscan format where it's more about chilling all day and racing at night. All these class races make for a hectic format.

DuceDave, I think we should ride down there, what do ya say?

I am going to do my best to make it, my Dad's having surgery in March but its after the 17th so I hope things will work out so I can have some fun.

If we run two bike's in different classes may we use the same number? Is my number 31 still available?

yeah, 2 bikes, same number will be fine. actually probably work out better that way to keep track of everyone. and everyone can keep their same numbers from previous races.

it'd be awesome if you show up, Dave, and caravan as many Tucson guys with you as you can!

give my best to your dad...

$55 to race 2 bikes isn't cheap.

With that in mind what about running 3 classes only.
BEGINNER- slower bikes, new racers, people who don't really care.
NOVICE- mid speed- they care but not really.
EXPERT- fastest bikes, they all care and only want to win, have raced before.

4 stroke, electric, china 2 stroke, Italian, and anything else I forgot, all run together in each class

also you can use the previous race results to put racers into classes or 'bump' them up

there's really nothing i can do about the entry fee (except raise it;).) it's not cheap to rent a track. there's also fees no one thinks about, like wristbands, an EMT, and other little things that all add up. and i know for a fact that a "local" track like adam's is more expensive then a track in the middle of nowhere. (not ragging on out of town tracks, just making a point.)

i'm definitely not trying to make a profit, and i doubt i will. but i am trying to have the best races possible. and any profit made will just go back into making the next one better.

and that's all i have to say about that. it is what it is.

i'm still working out the details on classes. i'm definitely gonna mix them up. probably need more than 3, but no more than 5.

i'm still open for suggestions on classes. nothing's set in stone until the flag drops.

Whatever the format, count me in for 1 bike at that rate and good luck.....I'm out to win ;) Wanna race?

I used the same race number for racers riding in 2 classes at
the first SoCal Motor Bicycle Race at Willow Springs last June.

It worked much better than using different numbers which would
have been pretty confusing so it was used at the Oct 22nd Grange
race too.

I know there are many different engine types and sizes, but it would be nice to know what the classes will be before I get to the track.
Even better if I knew a month or so before the races so I can decide what to bring.
