Don't mean to derail the thread with an offtopic post, but no real Cobras came with the 429.
They came with 260, 289 and 427s that I know of.

There also was just one prototype 390 all aluminum racing Cobra. It's the engine Carrol Shelby wanted to use after the 289 but Ford insisted in using the cast iron block 427FE side oiler which was much heavier. Let it be noted that The Cobras that won the Sports car world championship were the small block 289 HiPo's. The 427 may be a street legend but it never won a championship with the Cobra other than drags, where it set several world records. The prevailing wisdom of the day back then was high HP with a big block, because that was the only way to get over 400 hp back then. The 427 was terrible in the Cobra as a sports car because it weighed 300 lbs more than the small block and put all the weight where you didn't want it, in the nose of the car. The Cobra lost it's fantastic handling. Now you can order a 427 FE from Shelby American that is all aluminum that weights the same as the 289, add a blower or turbo or fuel injection for more power, Things you couldn't do easily in 1965. The 427 FE did very well in GT Racing in the Ford GT 40 winning 1,2, and 3rd place finishes in LaMans, but it was a mid engine car that distributed the weight properly. What's in MY Cobra replica? I have an 87 Mustang 5.0 with a bunch of racing parts on it putting out around 350 hp. In a 2000lb car it screams. Here is a picture of me at a road racing track day with it.

Recently bought a 160cc Honda OHC engine, plan on putting it in my chrome stretch cruiser with the Bullet Line cvt. Already have 2 of the hd rear hubs with the 4 sealed bearing and threaded R & L hand freewheel threads and extra RH thread on the left side for drum or disk brake. Have two Workman trikes, hoping that the spokes and rims can be used off the junker trike for my stretch. Cf & CCC builds really got me pumped for a dependable ride.

Raced the 427 side oiler with the 428 scj crank = 454 cid for years on the LM Dirt Tracks up North in the 60`s & 70`s. In the 80`s ran an Ed Howe coil/over off set chassis with the SB Chev 400 cid. Sold my 1970 Mach I 351 Cleveland 4 spd Show Car in 2009. Still have my 73 Mach I Pro Street (only street driven) 460 cid, C6 with shift kit, narrowed and tubbed with 18.5" wide MT`s on the rear.

Bought a 514 cid with Alum CJ heads and goodies = turned 0ver 600 hp on the dyno with pump gas and has been sitting in my shed for over 12 yrs!!

Around the same period, built up a 80`s model F150 short box with a HP 460 and headers with the C6 with 3:1 rear axle. When on I-10, called it Nascar I-10. Coming back from Ocala Fl around 10:30 at nite just East of Tallahassee Fl. Was pulling my 18 ft James Bond Boat 460 Jet Boat @ over 100 was fortunate to pass a 18 wheeler with a State Police Car just in front of him. He stopped me and asked if I could not see the car and him. He said the Judge would figger I was doing over 100 to pass him like that.

In my best voice, explaned to him that was just running with traffic and trying to stay out of trouble. He had a big grin, think he was biting his lip to keep from laughing, handed me my license and said slow down and let me go!!

Am 72 now, go much slower.

The pic`s need to be resized, will edit them in tomorrow if no one complains.

CF, thanks again for sharing your build with us.

At the Wizzin (Wizz-In), I got used to Pats 200 unfinned flywheel, so I did what every great innovator does, I stole it! Lol. I machined the fins off my flywheel. I like the clean look. Opinions?

Hoping the 160cc Honda fins unbolt. Went with the stand up engine for easier mounting in the stretch. Thinking CCC is doing a Honda 160cc build.

CF, have dreamed of a Cobra Roadster for yrs. Been Thinking of putting the Pro St on Ebay in the spring.

Get free streaming movies on my Desk Top pc with my Amazon Prime Acc. Last nite watched "The Worlds Fastest Indian" with Anthony Hopkins, aw sum flick, almost an unbleivable true story. Have you seen it?

They unbolt. Don't use a screwdriver though. Get a real gear puller so you won't damage it.

Cobras are cool because they are so frakin light. The whole car weighs just 2065 lbs. You don't need a ton of HP to get the job done. It handles like a slot car on rails.

CF, Yes, my coil/over car was around 2000 lbs before we slugged the rear. It weighed less than 10 lbs over1200 on the front axle with me in it at weigh in after the race. The scale official`s were always amazed we got it so close. Would put my helmet in front of the steering wheel and pull myself against the wheel and lean my big head forward!! lol.

Turned the BB Ford 7200 with the heavier chasse. Could never turn the SB Chev over 6800, it would break traction and turn sideways like my Hero Carl Edwards! Shania is my Female Hero. and of course now Anthony "Burt" Hopkins lol. Did you catch the Indian pic`s a couple post`s back??

It's a 6.5hp clone engine at 196cc's. The new Predator engine out now that HF replaced the clone with is 212cc's, but it has some internal differences that won't allow some of the speed parts to fit. I would stick with a true clone for the use of speed parts.

Yes, the Cobra is a Factory Five Racing Mk1.

That place is my dream job!!!!
Imagine working there? Talk about heaven on earth.I know they have my application Their factory is right down the street from my house in Wareham Ma.
I can hear / smell them all the time out there testing cars . The average test usually involves a boat load of smoke and two very nice dark strips of rubber going down the road a short break in the rubber marks then another 20 '30 feet of them again then another pause in the burn out then another 3-10' from 3rd gear

I've seen enough video tours of the place to actually think that I have been there myself at the FF shop. I want to drive my Cobra one year with Debbie to their open house. They give an award for the car that drives the farthest to attend, so being in Sacramento CA I may have a good shot at it. If I do I'll let you know so we can meet. I was going to buy my FF Cobra at one point then I saw someone selling their completed car on the internet from Owensburo KY. After a few calls and lots of pictures Debbie and I flew out to Louisville on Friday night, got a rental car, drove to Owensburo, bought the Cobra and drove it to Sacramento, and made it to Sacramento for work that Monday morning! Lol. Talk about a hard a$$ Gumball Ralley! We drove 24/7 taking turns driving while the other one slept (or tried to sleep in the passenger seat). It was winter and the car didn't have a heater then, so we had full face motorcycle helmets and insulated waterproof gloves and riding suits. We looked like we were in a cross country race. Every time we pulled in for fuel a crowd gathered around us wondering WTF??? It rained very hard through a few States and I didn't have a roof or windshield wipers. I proved that Rain-X works well, lol. It was a long hard trip but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything :)

Have you seen The Worlds Fastest Indian= the movie ? If not you will really enjoy it.

About 1960 while driving my hopped up 1951 Caddy with factory 3 on the tree, the hood flew up and smashed the windsheild. Threw the floppy thing into the ditch and drove 18 hrs in winter weather to Northern Wi from Kansas City Mo, the next day my eyeballs looked like tomato juice. Think they peeled a couple times. That trip, once was more than enough.

The Worlds Fastest Indian? I own it! :) I want to get the film poster and frame it over my bar! Tomato Juice eyes? Ouch! Sounds painful. Btw, I installed the soft top, wipers, heater, and stereo in the Cobra. A little more civilized now.

Ok, that explains why the pic was desk top pic for a while, blurry I suppose. With your built Indian, it would be a sin to not have the movie.

Burt had the speed record in NZ before he got to Utah Salt Flats in 57 ?? Sure glad was able to watch the movie.

Need to get working on the 28 ft House Boat, my darn mower is balking.

Was looking at the Cobra built in Africa before the economy went south, now my prime commercial 3.5 acre sale is on hold. The 73 pro street should be fun with the 514 in it! It could be driven across country tomorrow with the 460. It just sits in the garage smothered by mab`s and a 63" Moose rack on the roof! lol.

Need to get traction bars back on it, the springs rap up and the drive shaft rubs the tunnel, scares the dickens out of the of passengers.

The Hyways are a dangerous place, the less time spent on them the better, thats why I drove so fast. My buddy is selling his house that he loves, said it is too dangerous. He read that most people are killed within 2 miles of their homes.

God that's an awesome story I bet anyone who says they would do it would bail out after the first 200 miles in a Cobra with no heat in the winter But I drill wells min New England so I know cold and I would love to attempt such a feat Some reason that story made me think of James Dean No Idea why though Wow what a story, that's the stuff that makes ya glad to be in America

I knew Debbie and I could do it because about 10 years ago I was a long haul truck driver and regularly did 600 to 640 miles per day as normal. The secret is pace and time your stops with a stop watch. Any time you stop for food, fuel, or whatever you cannot get back or make up. Lots of 5 minute fuel and bathroom stops. Trucks have the advantage of having enough fuel to go 1000 to 1400 miles at a time with extra large fuel tanks. Cars need to stop much more often for fuel, so you really need to time fueling.
