tonight i was taking off my gruebee skyhawk 5 g head and replacing it with a angle fire head which looked like it had a bigger combustion chamber to me bigger = less compression but we will see. But anyway i took or the the head and there it was looking at me dead in the eye the elusive steel lined cylinder i saw it with my own eyes no more wondering people if you don't believe me remove the 4 bolts and look for yourself it IS there!!!! they didn't lie to us other people that know for a certain that they don't have one no you don't because they do and the change in type of metal is very noticeable
 
Are you sure it's not just plated like almost every 2-stroke is these days? Pics would help here.

You got bad eyes.... the steel liner on a 50 cc is almost 1/4" thick and black
in color
it is clearly visible looking in the ports as the match between the liner and
aluminum is not very good and the steel edge is rather rough
There is no chrome lining on a steel lined cylinder

The only company claiming a steel liner that I know of is Bikeberry on a Starfire 66 cc and
they are full of it.......

A steel liner extends almost to the bolt holes as a big black ring with a
joint that you can feel with a fingernail
It also extends down into the crankcase with the transfer ports notched into the steel

well i went back outside took off the head that i just put on started taking pics all of them r fuzzy turned the macro on on the cam still fuzzy i could post em but then wed just have a bigfoot on our hands any one with a better cam out there cause there are alot of these bikes out there im sure
 
What different does it make. Crappy Chinese wavy oval steel liner or chrome plated bore who cares.

Theoretically chrome liner should last longer.

i just took the head off my Grubee Skyhawk, GT-5, made 9-20-09, and it's definitely not steel. it's chrome plated.

i tried sticking a magnet to it, and it didn't stick. i was gonna take a picture of that, but it's impossible to take a still photo of a magnet not sticking.

the interesting thing i found, though, was the base gasket was of a higher quality, and actually came off in one piece.

even more interesting than that, the base gasket is an almost perfect match for the transfer ports on the barrel, and since this motor's been run before, you can see how far off the transfers are to the case. i'll need to fix that.

and i included a picture of the GT-4 Starfire flat head and the GT-5 Skyhawk slant head, so you can see the different combustion chambers. in theory, the slant should work better, but in my empirical testing, it didn't. not for me, anyways. (i put the slant head on my GT4, and it was slower, and i put the flat head on the GT5 and didn't notice a difference. your results may vary.)

he's right about taking pics, though. cylinder walls don't photograph well. mine looks rusted and crappy, but it's just oil.

baird has way better camera than my 12.2 mp Fujifilm and they might be chrome i just know there is a sleeve in there when people were saying there wasn't now we have the proof bwaahhahahaha dance1dance1dance1dance1
 
mine doesn't look like a sleeve. it looks like chrome plated aluminum with very rough edges on all the ports.

i just looked over the Grubee site and didn't see it mentioned anywhere that the GT5 had a steel sleeve. dunno why this is even an issue, or how it started. a steel sleeve ain't necessarily better anyways.

Steel liners are NOT chromed

Chrome lined cylinders are superior to steel liners

this is a pic of a 50cc Grubee GEN II with a crooked and off center steel liner

THERE ARE NO 66 cc STEEL LINED CYLINDERS

There is no room between the bolt holes and the bore on a 66 cc
for a liner on the top or the bottom

For the inferior cooling of a china jug mebbe. I never took my 5.8 Morini apart but I checked it when it was new through the exhaust port and a magnet stuck.
 
mine looks like a thin shiny metal sleeve that's probable 1/16 thick is that a sleeve or a liner or plated or what im confused now
