4stroke gearbox chain drive....I NEED MY FIX, haha

ok, so the $199 4stroke motorkit arrived today. good.
but here's what i'm facing:
once this chain loosens up, its going to start breaking teeth. not good. as you can see in the 2nd pic, its already on the loose side. and it hasnt been run yet.
someone told me theres a post or thread where someone has installed a spring loaded tensioner inside the casing.....does that sound familiar to anyone? i am unable to find it.
if you follow the tip of my finger to just under the top chain, thats the farthest forward of the casing anything to mount one can be drilled, before you get into other stuff.
i may be able to drill a slot (to adjust up or down) in the back, and run a regular roller bearing wheel

Hi Karma, his engine will NOT fit your gear-drive Hoot!

Him Spunout, one of our dealers made an adapter for the RS 35, BUT no-one has made the adapter for your engine yet. It is a common misconception that all of the HS engines have the same side-cover and same end on the crank.

Problem is that Tsubaki, the strongest chain maker, rates their #25 chain at well under 2 hp. Doesn't it seem a little odd to drive a #41 chain w/ a little sewing machine chain. I mean I know your trading speed for torque and all but.... I have one of those w/ a cracked cover that anyone who wants to pay shipping for it can have. That is literally the only motorbicycle part I've ever been afraid to run!

note that A,B and C are different lubrication systems if my memeory serves me correctly A is occasional lube B is oilbath and C is an oil lubing system that squirts or sprays oil onto the chain.

When you think about the fact that you often cannot mix parts on the same year, same model car, it really is a huge undertaking to make something universal to many different makes and models of engine. Kudos to EZ for making something that works well on many different engines!

hmmm. looks like he's got the right set-up there. i'm completely in the dark about gear reduction. i dont want to be limited to 30mph. not because i want to go 40 all of the time, but i dont want to have to keep the revs high. an easy-on-the-rpms 30 is what i want.
and i'm not sure of my ability to do all of that

he just called me. i think he bought the motor, THEN saw the gearbox problems ppl are having. he asked what his Dax 4-smoker has for a gearbox and i told him i have no clue, but he should come here for answers. i guess i dont know why he hasnt just asked dax...maybe he said, but my 2 yr-old was throwing a fit during our conversation.

I just got the same kit from gasbike. It doesn't look like the chain is being overloaded with this engine. The power rating for a #25 chain is just under 2hp but this chain is a 25-2 double chain which should handle nearly 4hp. With the free wheel output shaft even if the chain did break and jam the large sprocket the drive sprocket to the rear wheel would still turn. The support bearings on the shafts look well sized to me. I won't be able to find out until I get a wide crank for the cruiser bike I'm installing this kit on.

thats good info but my concern is the chain stretching so much, that it starts slopping around in there and breaking teeth. or even jumping off the gears.

Well, I guess I'll find out whether the chain will stretch too much. At least if it breaks and jams the driven sprocket in the case the output shaft will freewheel and not lock up the rear wheel.

I ran my $199 engine and chain reduction kit about 25 miles on my Schwinn Point Beach. No sign of chain stretch so far and no marks inside the chain case from the chain. My reduction didn't look like the one mmachine had on the other forum. The reduction I got looks just like the one Spunout has. Currently I've removed the kit from the Schwinn and installing it on an old mountain bike. The mt. bike has a steel frame so I'm welding the engine and tank mounts to the frame to make the set up a bit more rugged. With the greater low speed torque and centrifugal clutch this bike will be better for riding some of the jeep trails around here. My other bike with the two stroke is working fine for street riding.
