We can stop calling it 80cc

For some reason I've been seeing vendors say that an 80cc engine doesn't exist (which many of us already know), but they continue to market it as an 80cc anyway; this has been going on for a while. I assume that most on the board here know this. Some have stated that the Chinese factories used to market the engines as 80cc, not as 66cc. Do the factories still do this?

If almost everyone knows that no 80cc exists, why keep calling it that? It's a deceptive practice to new people to the hobby. 66cc has been established as fact for a long time; we can stop calling the larger engines 80cc.

no, it's just the chinese have a funky way of measuring them.

from the Grubee Website: By western standards the volume of the engine head combustion chamber is not figured in the displacement engine rating, however some Chinese factories include this volume in their engine displacement ratings therefore making the engine appear bigger than it actually is.

The newest RAW engines all came from the factory this time with a '66cc' label covering up the '80cc' that is printed on the box, & the labels on the engines still clearly say "66.5cc". (so the factories are starting to move in that direction!)

I think sellers are still calling them 80's because newbees don't know they are really 66's & want to buy the biggest engine they can, so they look at the engines listed as 80cc.
I list them as 80cc (66cc), but I always tell eveyone what the deal really is with them!

I know we should all demand they ship us a second 14cc engine to make up the difference.

I just wish my rear view mirror reflected a 1:1 scale can't back worth a flip with that closer than it appears carp.

Wait, whut? You mean not all ads are completely truthful?!?!

If nothin' else I think it a good test of dealer honesty and owner knowledge - there's a coupla distributors out there that choose to not clarify the Chinese "mislabeling" and as a result I simply don't do business with them...

"Dishonest advertising" is only a problem if ya don't do a lil research first... and seriously - if yer buyin' random crap off the internet, believing the hype and not bothering to do a lil double-checkin'...

Well... *shrug* Yer gonna have a LOT more to worry about than a coupla missing ccs ;)

There's a lot more troublesome "misinformation" going on in these forums than out in the market. For example people claiming 40-50mph for a stock engine. This results in far more confusion and disappointment than the 80cc thing. And telling people to use almost as much oil as gas in the mix. Also refering to more oil as "rich" when actually it's leaner. Not to mention all the upgrades and aftermarket baloney that has no actual effect. The list goes on and on. Talk about confusion.

Those in glass houses...

When got my first 49cc engine right... the sticker said otherwise 66.5cc this was from eBay from powerkingshops AKA Zoom Bicycles the engine was superb till that crappy chain snapped and got caught between the frame and rim lucky not the spokes I'd be even more upset, anyways that destroyed the bearing and key inside the engine took awhile start it due to being out of timing and missing the spark.

Yep... but everytime we try to call out those people on their bs claims, the thread gets locked or deleated.

I think I for one am a myth buster am I not? If anything, threads get locked because of mis-information, not the "calling of the B.S."

Yes Joe, you call it like it is...
to be honest, the threads get locked because of arguing; but what do they think is gonna happen when some guy is claiming his bikes are real 80cc or will go 50 MPH?!?! it's total bs & lying to people!

(or that his engine kits are the only ones that are different & more powerful...)

Yes, lot's of B.S. here and ther, and it can be frustrating.
However, you have to remember that the very characteristic of a bolt on motor bike kit will bring all kinds of people into the fold....those who are willing to learn, those who are willing only to argue about things they don't know, and those who just want to wrench on something and tear it apart.

Venice, you are becoming an old jaded biker of these motorized bikes.... :)
