WHAT..... Another 29er build!

All I will say Tom is that I am heading away from the traditional look, I'm making it more of a Motorized Scout Bike. The seat post was just glare from the camera, I'm waiting on the new seat post to arrive so I can install the seat, it's all looking as planned so far but there is more to do! Stay tuned for the final outcome! drn2
 
man that looks good. almost makes me want to ditch my genisis twenty nine for their onix. but i like the front suspension and disc brake.
 
Yeah, I hear ya! Disc brakes would be AWESOME and some gearing with the automatic shifter would be cool to. After this build I am thinking about a Board Track Motorbike with the GY200 motor and a 6 speed trans but then I would have to register it as a motorcycle.

What I really wish is that they would make a monarch springer fork for the 29er! That would look SWEET on my bike.
 
One could always get a Monark fork and cut it and make extensions. They could be turned on a lathe out of solid stock, or find tube to fit inside and some to slip over for extension and tig it all together............... Curt

I thought about that for my bike but where would one get a fork from? I hear Genesis doesn't sell their parts. I was even hoping to fined a used Genesis 29er on craigslist and strip the forks, gearing and disc brakes and put them on my bike!

That would work but then I don't have a Tig or a Lathe so I would have to farm it out and then it would have to be re powder coated, it could end up pretty costly but... I would have the only one around!

If I was going to go that far I would just call Monarch and see if they could make a custom one for me first! But I like your ideas!

http://www.monarkforks.com/ . you wouldn't realy need a tig a mig would do it also. If one would cut it then get the same size tube you could fit some solid stock inside and slpi another piece inbetween the cuts leve a 1/8" gap for welds,would work also.............Curt
 
Yeah, I have a Lincoln 220 Mig on a bottle so I could do it myself, I have been looking on ebay at used springer forks to see if I could come up with something reasonably priced.
 
Today was a good day and a bad day, The hub adaptor and 48 tooth sprocket came from Manic Mechanic and also the 1 inch throttle assembly. I started with the Hub adaptor and sprocket, a lot of people say the stock 44 tooth sprocket works well on the 26" bikes but since mine was a 29er I bumped the sprocket size up to a 48 tooth, it was a pretty easy install other than getting the chain around the primary sprocket. That was kind of a pain, but it all worked out and it is all hooked up.



Then I started on the throttle assembly and MAN what a pain in the azz it was, the new mini bike throttle had different threads for the cable than the china girl, plus the screws were to short, then I just decided to drill out the stock throttle to 1 inch and ended up breaking it so I went back to the 1 inch throttle and took the stock cable and cut the threads off of it, then I used a brake handle adjuster and fit it into the throttle assemble to take out the cable housing slack. it works but I will still just buy a new correct throttle cable!

All I had left was the Clutch lever and I took the stock one and drilled it out to 1 inch but it needed to be spread apart just a little tiny bit.... Yeah ...so I use a screwdriver and pry it just a little and SNAP it breaks in two.... Crap! So now I have to find a 1 inch motorcycle brake or clutch lever to use. On a good note I installed a set of Leather Saddle Bags on the back rack after I shortened the cross strap so they would hang right, then I made a leather Gas tank topper, I tried to dye it as close as I could get it to the bags. It turned out nice, it's still drying so tomorrow I will secure it to the tank!

Expensive but a true classic, I have to say I want one BAD! Saw a post where a guy put one on a 29er but it looks like the tire just clears and there's no room for a fender. I may build a 26" bike after this though and it will have a Monarch fork!

There are cheeper one's out there on e bay and such witch might be ok for a slow small engine build. Like here in MN 50cc max and 2HP or less. Back in the 50's had a oridgional Monark twin motor bike and road it all the time,the old forks were tuff............Curt
 
Got the seat post in and the seat on finally, also installed the front LED lights but still need to figure out a way to mount a battery. Bought 1" bar levers from a Norton but had to make sleeves for the cable ends as they were to sloppy, used a piece of metal brake line in the cable adjuster as a reducer and it worked perfectly, then cut a short piece of the same line, flared one end and cut a slice down the whole thing for the cable to fit thru, had to spread it apart to get the lead cable end to slide into it but it all worked perfectly.

When I was first looking at building a bike I was looking at a Macargi in O.D. Green, it was $250.00 plus shipping but ended up with the genesis as it was $100 less. Budget constraints Ya know! I do love the OD green though!

NOTE* The seat has the old school style round seat post clamp known as a Pillar or Plain Post, so I had to change the seat post. Keep this in mind if you have the newer dual clamp style seat post.

Just a little more work done, I added Indian motorcycle decals to the tank and changed out the side cover decal to an Indian motorcycles decal as well, I built a hardwood box for the front rack that turned out pretty nice. I installed with eyelets to feed paracord thru for tie down points. Bought a battery that fits perfectly in the leather pouch on the handle bars, it's for the LED lighting system I'm working on. Installed the chain guard and the front rack mount broke from vibration so I built a heavy duty one out of 1/8th inch steel. Put another leather tool pouch on the back rack. it's lookin good!
