So far several people have mentioned no problems around Austin, and San Antonio.
 
I threw together a concept for a low profile 27" bike with the tall skinny tires i like tonight that I am thinking about building a little later.
It is a quick CAD drawing showing the angles and profile of the bike.
What do ya think?

I like the concept. Motor bicycles don'y need to be tall like a normal bicycle.
 
I think the friction drive I had on an old steel framed schwinn varcity bike was my best "not too obvious looking" builds. Not unusual to see something where a back rack goes on a bike and the 4-stroke engine was not very loud. Plus it isn't unusual to see a road bike going fast that's what they are built for just dummy peddle alot and I doubt anyone would think anything of it LOL
 
So, I got my parts from SBP last night. The shorter intake that is supposed to go with the NT carb that I got to replace the CNS. a #68 jet, the racing filter, a better fuel valve, my new beefy tire and puncture resistant tube.
Cant wait to see the difference.
 
My worry about doing that much to the bike at once is that something wont work right, and I will have to track down which change is the cause of the problem.
 
I got to take it for a quick test run tonight, and it seemed much better, although I didn't have time to let it warm up properly. The only problem so far is that I didn't get the carb clamp on tight enough so it popped off... I got it on tight enough now! lol

Thats what I was thinking. My original purpose for using a road bike instead of a mountain bike or a cruiser is that I thought I would be able to peddle assist at high speeds and make the bike go even faster. I used to do 100 mile rides, and I still commonly ride 16 miles each way to work and back on my road bike, but even I can't move my legs that fast!lol

I am aiming for a low profile bike with tall tires, a home made springer front fork and a copper fuel tank. I need to do some more measurements on the road bikes existing components and then I will create a more finished design in 3d. I'll post it when I get that far.

Anyone happen to have shop drawings of the motor or other common parts?
I will also have to pick up a mostly working donor road bike somewhere that I can scrap for the steerer tube, bottom brackets and other moving parts.

The welder who I hire at work said I could come by his shop and I think I might be able to turn that into learning how to weld! I am a wood worker by trade, welding doesn't come naturally to me.

How fast do you guys usually cruise? I'd come to one nearby but my bike doesn't like going slow and it tops out at 33.

I have that ever so often. Do you have the NGK B6HS plug? Mine didn't start doing it until I threw that plug in. I also found that from the box the gap is way too small. It made the ground grey/white and the base oily. I also had relatively bad performance. Opened the gap and now it is starting to get the chocolatey brown and my performance came back. Haven't checked my top end yet but I'm pretty close to my ~36 mph gps record.

When I was in Kyle I just stayed in the back near the church behind the police stations.

Dayum, I like it. I was thinking of doing something similar except using a 29er wheel or the monster 38 or so bike at Walmart. After two weeks of commuting on it with 90% hard riding, a 2" tire is my minimum. I just need to make it with a low profile frame so wind doesn't kill my top end like it did with my previous set up.
 
Hmmm. Now I want to do a 29er too. Put some wide smooth tires on those giant rims! that would be smoooooooth. A 44 tooth gear would probably push that along at a pretty good clip.
 
Yeah, I think I'd still go with a 40 tooth though. I've got a few long straightaways that could be covered much faster. My goal is to cruise at 30 but I think that'll require a shift kit. Traffic gets pretty fast over here.

I found a new 27" fork on ebay for $17 and a mountain bike shock for $12 (cheap to start, bet a better one later)
I can make the hinge brackets for the bottom of the fork, and the top bracket pretty easily.
Let me know what ya'll think

What size mountain bike shock? If you ran a 29er fork up front it would cut down on the rigging you'd have to do later on. Only problem is that the 29er fork would have the brakes too high...but a 29er set up for disk brakes would work if you can get disk brakes on the 27. Then you keep your solid 27 fork on the bike so that the compression is sent through the mountain bike fork. Good idea.

I know after riding with a hard tail bike (first frame) I wasn't going to stick with the solid fork my other bike had. With a bunch of disassembling bikes and a little bit of head scratching, I found a mountain bike fork with suspension. Not a perfect fit but the bearing lined up well enough in their tracks.

The shock I was referring to would normally be used on a mountain bikes rear suspension. Picture a Monark springer fork with a shock instead of just springs.
