Just curious but what would the benefit be in supporting the axle on only 1 side?
I think some motorcycles have a set up like that BUT on a bike it would definitely require some structural changes and beefing up of components to handle the stresses of 1 sided support/
Jus' as food for thought, most trikes have single sided axle support - the spiffier ones trend towards 20mm axles & sealed bearing hubs due to the load offset, search carefully however as the prices vary wildly, don't let the first returns spook ya
I would suggest the use of a shift kit, one heck of a reinforced right side drop out, and a wheel with a custom hub.
I doubt that even a 15mm ChroMo. axle can take that kind of abuse.
You would need to go bigger, perhaps 20 or 25mm. Waaay thick.
More food for thought, some mopeds have a single sided swingarm & drive - which would ofc require the use of that moped's axle, hub & drive assembly - the 1980 Suzuki FA50 is an interesting example;
I built one years ago, if i remember right i used mini bike hub and bearings. Had the turned to fit inside a 20" rear wheel hub. It was a old mini bike hub with taper bearings i think it was 3/4" shaft. If this will help. Used it on a side car bike for my son..........Curt
i have accumulated a lot of pipe some already bent in interesting shapes
thinking a one sided bike with the strength to hold under motor power would be *****eeeeeen
and bmx/moto
the orange ride is something along the ideas i have although
i am thinking of a larger frame and the idea of simpson construction elements is also intriguing --the bmx/moto it does not seem to have it's sproket mounted
any other ideas and photos ????? engineered details of single sided mounts and how to with hardware or just seat of the pants at 40 or more mph ???!!!!
