I also used to catch horse flies and either tie or super glue a long hair or thread to the fly and tie the other end of the long hair or thread to a paper clip then let the horse fly paperclip drags begin
lots of fun but not for poor ol mister horse fly.

Tried it as a kid but gave up when after 2 hours of catching four flies, my mate called to say he'd just bought goldeney for the n64. I forgot about the buggers and no amount of "warm air" would resus those stiffs......
The idea was good tho and killed time too...hate flies
