I have a reproduction 1955 Schwinn Deluxe 7 speed. I would like to put a motor on it.. Is this possible and still be able to use the gears? I would like a 2 cycle if possible but I don't understand how to mount the gas throttle.

Yes you can use your gears. Loosen Allen bolt and slide grip shifter up further on bars or switch it to other side. It will b backwards but u will get use t it. This is what people do if the put a shift kit on a bike. Also check tube size on frame you may need a larger frame mount.

You could add a jackshaft/shift kit so that engine power is transferred through the pedal chain and gears.
-I would mount and break-in the engine in the kit form, powered through the motor chain for a while before attempting the shift kit.

Have fun with your build.
