New Venice~ Vintage Schwinn Boardie

Venice Motor Bikes

Custom Builder / Dealer/Los Angeles
Here's one I just got the parts back from chrome & powder coating & started a test build.

It's another restored 1950s Schwinn straight bar with a Sportsman Flyer tank, VMB Monark-2 fork, Felt wheels & slicks.

First I'll get everything test fitted & then break it down & rebuild it with grease & loctite everywhere.

Here's a couple of setups that I had powdered while I did this....

One's a 1950s Monark frame & fork & the other's a custom stretch Schwinn & vintage springer fork.

Nice. How are those thick slicks? have ya tried the CST cyclops, are the slicks better?

The Thickslicks are nice!
I've used them on my race bikes with good results... I've seen other racers using the Cyclops tires, but I've never tried therm.

I installed a new engine & took it for its first test ride today... It runs really well but I prefer my bikes to have a lot of extra power.

The next thing to do is to install a good front disc brake & some vintage style pedals.

When I get more time in a few weeks, I'll concentrate on hot rodding the engine with a reed, big carb & a pipe.

I also checked the serial numbers... it's a 1953 Schwinn

Nice bike Norm! Nothing like a straight bar Schwinn build. Come to think of it I still have one of those frames kicking around and a paint stencile kit.

Knowing me, you should know that I can't leave anything 'stock'...

I'm completely porting & rebuilding the entire engine for a reed valve, 22mm carb & a CR-80 pipe

I'll post more pics of the progress as it happens...

Good looking bike Norm, I haven't been riding much lately or working on bikes, I've been trying to finish my old Ford.

Here's where I left off yesterday...

I machined the cylinder for the reed block & opened up the port as large as possible.

Next week I'll finish the machining, build the engine & start making the intake for the 22mm Mikuni carb.

I had a very productive day with the bike today...

I finished machining the engine, put it all together and then fabricated the intake manifold for the 22mm carb.

Venice, Beautiful bike, amazing engine work too. The bright blue really pops and fits that bike to a tee. Thanks for the detailed picts.

Norm I'm a fan of the China girls and currently have three bikes running them, including my daily rider, a Grubee frame board track style, so when I say your Schwinn is awesome take into account my prejudice as well as my sincerity...your combination really works. Rick C.
