New tandem build, from the old tandem.....

And back home, after some fun racing, a shot of p hood and the tandem. It's a bummer he missed out on this event, but I'm sure he'll make the next one.

and a shot of the wrapped exhaust and the engine to get further modification....it performed quite well for it's first race session.....no probs whatsoever.

New tandem build, Before & After!

Here's the build before and after.....quite a difference.

Before

After

It truly is not the same bike, it is a much better bike now!

Well then.......now seriously considering dropping an HF 420cc w/electric start into this beast of a bike......what do you think?

Doesn't really matter, don't need a vote on the decision here...lol. The price on this engine is fairly cheap and the potential is almost endless......power to the people, two at a time on wheels! Will 15hp be enuf to move 450lbs. of man and machine at a reasonably fast speed? We shall see!

Gonna need to find a new location for the gas tank is all......laff

Welp, here we go again......time for an engine transplant/upgrade. The Kawi motor is now in a Schwinn Panther build, so the tandem is getting a 6.5hp HF as a replacement, I'll be posting the progress here....

Well then, there's been a change of plan for the tandem's powerplant, it is now officially gonna be a Honda GX160 with an electric starter........let the build commence once again!

I am trying to do this but will do the rear mount first. I am looking to put a centrifugal clutch on the motor and need an additional sprocket on the left of the rear wheel on the other side of the pedal sprocket. How did you do that?

When I first mounted the 124cc engine on a rack I built, I used an EZM tranny that went to a 60 tooth that was attached with a rag joint on the left side. A bit later switched out the rag joint for a pineapple sprocket mount which was an improvement.

I just ordered a new EZM Q-matic with balanced pulley to transfer the power of the Honda GX 160 electric start to the rear wheel of the tandem (once again). So back on track to get this beast running better than ever!

Here's the powerplant, just waitin' for a new EZ Q-matic to bolt onto it and then it's back on the tandem.........

hey bro. i got an early schwinn tandem frame s/n T-289 it has the bent seat post. A S & CO sprockets and factory gussets on the top bar. forks and bars. i think it's one of the first one's. the bad is the frame is cracked at the neck. let me know if you want it. if not i'll take it to vet's, i know the sprockets are rare. dennis

Man....thanks for the offer Dennis, greatly appriciated but I'm gonna have to pass as I gots no mo room for anything ATM. Sure wish I did as that would be fun to restore.

Thanks again bro!

Scotto, Have you see any of those Videos, Some successful and some not on where a person made an air engine and put it on a bike. Compressed air into a 4 stroke engine by changing the cam on it. One guy mounted the exhaust back into the tank to make it quieter. it may not be a speed demon but anyone have any thoughts of possibilities?

Haven't seen that but it sounds rather interesting (and maybe dangerous) ;) Do you have a link?

The compressed engine is very interesting to me. There are about 20 plus videos on YouTube. Just look up Air Engine. Compressed air bike etc in many different ways. Some of the Videos are Great and give good Ideas and some are too basic. I reallly like the 4 stroke that is turned into a compressed air engine by changing the cam. Then there is one guy who says air must go into exhaust instead of spark plug hole. I think this Idea is about to be successful! Some of them are almost there. They experiment with Exhaust and no exhaust. Exhaust into a Tank again etc.
For those of you who say it WONT WORK. Well if Everyone said that we would still be riding Camels and have Rocks for weapons.candles for light.
This idea is not for the impatient person who want to go fast now. I think at this time it is possible to go 1-2 miles on a tank. Use no fuel, A compressor would need to be figured out.
One guy used an engine directly to the axle of a wheel on one side. I thought, Wow with the right size wheel you could hook up some kind of compressor pump to the other side of the wheel axle and refill your air tank, But it would need to be the right kind of compressor.
I was just checking this out because motorized is not always just gas or electric.
Check it out.
