Ok, The Hoot Ratio Is 5 Or Maybe 5.1 To 1. The Ht Has A 4.1 To 1 Ratio Internally. I Switched All The Screws To Allen Head 6mm, Including The Two Intenal Bolts That Hold The Case To Engine. Some Interesting Stuff. I Do Have The Angle Cut Gears. I Dug A Incomplete Hoot Out Of The Parts Pile. It Came In A Grab Bag Off Ebay. In The Pics, I Thought I Was Getting A Complete Unit, No So. It Is Missing The Big Center Gear And The Clutch Drum And Gear., It Has The One Rib On The Cover. And No Plug On Top. The Interior Is 100 % Identical . The Small Gear In Back Of The Big Center Gear Has Angle Cut Teeth. The Clutch Shoes Are Identical. This Unit Has Never Been Used. It`s Bone Dry, No Chain Has Run On The Out Put . All The Parts Are Inter Changeable. Oh, My Clutch Gear And Big Center Gear Mesh Perfect The Way It Came.now I Wonder If This Parts Hoot Came With Angle Gears. They Maybe Robbed Parts For A Customer, I Have No Clue.

Ron, on the hoot I had the big gear in the back connecting to the small gear on the output shaft were angled also. Just the two gears that you are missing were straight. The final gear on the output shaft is the one that I used when I was playing with the cvt many months ago. Don't know if you remember or not. That was the most useful part of that hoot box. Trashed the rest and used that 1 gear to reverse the rotation of the output shaft on the cheap cvt from monster scooter parts.

Yes I Do Remember, You Built It Up With Epoxy Or Something. I Suppose You Are Aware Of My 2 Cvt Builds. Mine Are Stock Out Of The Box. Am Happy With Them, May Need To Change Sprockets For More Speed. Plan On Using Cvt On My 4 Wheel "joy Rider". I Do A Lot Of Planning Every Day!! Lol. Motorboy. May Take You Up On The Parts For My Hoot Later. Your Kit Price Is Attractive. Good Luck. Ron

I remember yours too. I was determined not to have a rackmount. I don't know why, I just wanted the drive side to be like the normal in-frame mounts. You know how it turned out. I should've gone with the rackmount! Not having those two POS gears is the best thing that could've happened. I would definately hook up with Motorboys for the angled gears. You should have a good gearbox that way.

ok guys just a quick off topic something i have to say. the throttle return spring on my bike keeps breaking. so im just putting this out there to anyone that has this engine im not sure if its a bad batch of springs they made in china or something but this is the second time it has happened. and the bike goes to WOT when this happens, so be ready to get on the kill switch. i am going to put a larger external spring on my carb from now on just to be safe. i suggest you do the same just to be safe. thanks and be careful!!!!

Hey Ron, I can get some pics of the cvt on the engine. I can't remember if I ever posted them in the thread when I was working on it. I don't have it installed anymore. It's in the corner of the shop, waiting for a shift kit if SBP picks me as one of the lucky few!!

no problem yet with the spring but my throttle cable sticks needs oil. im replacing my carb soon so if it goes it will give me a excuse to replace it :)

this thread has made up my mind to take advantage of a $199 4 stroke promotion. i always feared the Hoot gearbox but now i'll give it a shot, because you guys have figured out some good stuff (heavy lube, shimming out the clutch bell, etc).
even IF by doing those things it doesnt last, thats alright because i'll still have the motor and i'll just get the bullet-proof EZM transmission and throw that on. probably end up doing that anyway, but i'll try to make the Hooter last a bit.
good posts here.

Hey Spun, The ones that are on sale at Gasbike are the hoot box with the straight gears, The phase 1 I beleive. I have never tried them, but people have said they are not that great. Still a good price as the motor will still be worth it.

yeah thats what i figured. even if the gearbox grenades itself immediately, i still have the motor, mounting plate, sprocket, all hardware, etc.
so i take it that the posts in this thread are about the Phase II?

yeah, its about the beveled gear hoot, mine is still going strong after more than 2000kms, i would pay the extra cash and get a hoot that works, get the bevel geared one and you wont need to buy a replacement gearbox.

Comments: i recently placed an order (Order #GasBike12243)for the 4stroke kit. its my understanding that this will come with the (notoriously awful) Phase I gearbox. is this correct? and the gearboxes offered for sale for $80...are they phase I with straight gears, or Phase II with beveled gears? thanks, Happy

Hi, Jeff:

I have consulted our tech guy.

Actually, the motor kits we sell online are not with the Phase I gearbox since we have some customer complain about it.

From last year, we have reviewed some product with the Phase I gearbox and we decide to take them out of our online store.

If you still have any other concern, please feel free to call us at 818 782 2227 from 11:am to 1:30 pm and ask for David.

He is the best tech guy in our company. Just ask for him and he will answer every question you have.

Thanks for your purchase at Gasbike.net

.

Have a good day.

If There Was Any Confusion In A Post Of Mine. My New Style Hoot With The Angle Gears "did Not" Need Any Shiming . The Old Style Hoot I Have, Both Housing`s Are Inter Changable With The New Hoot. Have Not Installed Yet. Ron .cvlt1

mike simpson called gasbike.net for me and they told him that whats coming in the $199 kits isnt the Phase I OR Phase II. what we're getting is a single chain drive. mike says theres a thread someplace that someone figured a way to install a chain tensioner in there. once that chain gets loose, it will start bustin' teeth like i do after a few shots of whiskey :p.

hey all. im just filling you all in. i sold the bike awhile ago but i just got ahold of the guy the other day. he has well over 6000kms on it. and he said he hasnt touched the gearbox since i sold it to him! i would call that a successful hoot gearbox. i will keep you all posted as to how long it has lasted.
