Has anyone had any luck with the chain guards that come in our engine kits? Do they end up breaking? Please post all experiences with them?

    Thanks,
    Pat

The tabs normally snap off, so just mod it a bit, and you'll be right.

    I don't use any guard.

Yes, I have luck with them...I have a 96% success rate at hitting the garbage can the first throw with them.

I modified one from an old J.C. Higgins bike. Turned it around and cut out a portion to clear the frame down bar. Looks good. mikes

I don't use any guards, the guards are holding up good in my closet.

Take those tabs off, and replace it with something a little thicker. To hold it on, drill out some holes, and use pop rivets.

The tab that mounts to the engine looks kinda flimsy, I ended up not using it all.

i'm with Joe. the first bike i built, i looked at it, held it up to my bike, then threw it back in the box. now, i don't even take them out of the bag. i was saving them, in case i came up with something else to do with them, but i think i threw them all away by now.

the chain is usually behind you anyway, so unless you wear bell bottoms or baggy ghetto pants, i wouldn't worry about not using it.
