Winter is proving to be OK, I just in Nor Cal keep an eye on freeze warnings. I have a Valencia Dwarf Orange tree that has been transported within the Bay Area, an up to inland way Nor Cal like 50 miles short or Oregon where it spent time indoors in the winter. Now Coastal CA at 1000ft in Mendocino County, I am at the ready to go out and spray water over it and blueberry shrubs to keep from freezing.
Recently about 200 miles further up the Nor Cal Coast by Eureka, though I did not feel the quake, a 6.5 hit near off shore and 70K people lost power. 2 deaths unfortunately and a dozen people injured. They are checking a bridge that had damage and it has been closed. Routes over to Hwy 5 seem to have not been affected.
Centers have been set up for those affected. I expect they have a lot of power lines to get sorted out up there. I was in the Bay Area when 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake hit. I quickly hid under a strong wooden table. Later an after shock while at college and no way to get out quick, it was back to lessons. I might see about this new newfangled app for mobile device to warn 10 second before a strike. Reverse 911 call already have. Maybe listen to the ravens around if they know something if near tsunami areas of the coast.
