Engine for this bike?

Hi all, I'm trying to get into this whole motorized bicycle thing, but I know very little about it right now. I'm pretty experienced with mechanics and modifying cars, but bicycles would be new to me.

I'm thinking about getting this bike: (edit) I can't post a link

Men's 26" Huffy Cranbrook (Wal-Mart Website)

Where could I get an engine that will fit this bike? Keep in mind that I want to start off simple, I'd like to have to do as little modification as possible to get it mounted and working. Thanks.
 
I cannot for the life of me figure out why people ALWAYS assume Scott, LA has anything to do with Los Angeles.

Why would I put a city name before a state abbreviation if I was talking about Los Angeles??

Sorry, I'm taking it out on you....but I've heard this probably 50 times before. There IS a state with the abbreviation LA, but it seems that the west coast city is so much more important than us backwoods cajuns.

Bah, sorry....like I said, it just gets so annoying. Anyway I really appreciate the offer for help and sorry to get all pissy, lol.

What's wrong with that bike though? The whole reason I'm getting that bike is because it's cheap...

Is there any engine kit that will fit it easily? If so I'll stick with the cheap-O bike, lol.

To be honest, the first place people think of is Los Angeles when they read that someone lives in "LA"!!
(even people in your own state!!) ;)

I guess from my perspective it just feels like the frickin' universe rotates around southern california and it makes me quite angry.

Especially on car/motor forums....it's like if you live in that area you have access to ANYTHING...whereas down here I typically can't even find sports cars in junk yards (as a for instance), let alone a custom motor shop or anything else interesting.

Anyone have any ideas if the motors sold by zoombicycles will fit a Huffy Cranbrook without modification?
 
I have a $70 Huffy from Sears and it is a fine starting point. The Cranbrook will accept pretty much any HT (Happy Time) Chinese 2-stroke engine. Just remember your first build will take much longer than the 4 - 6 hours the advertisements say it will. You can also get 4-stroke kits if you prefer although they are a bit more expensive. Both paths have their own set of problems that you have to work through. Take your time and get each step right. Several of the vendors also have Installation instructions that will be much easier to understand than the "Chinglish" instructions that come with the engines. If you run into trouble search the forum and you will probably find an answer. If you don't then post a question and somebody will supply an answer. Good Luck!

The engine kits that are sold by eveyone of us are all the same size & bolt on the same!!
You will have to do a little easy mod to the front mount to make the engine fit in a cruiser frame, but you can find all that info right here!!

Also, plan on adding a front brake to your bike ASAP! The rear coaster brake will eventually fail if used alone!!

& "YES"... the universe DOES actually rotate around us!! It's a scientific fact that's been proven in lab tests!! :D lol

Alot of the newer bikes these days have over sized tubing that doesnt allow some motors to mount to the front tube. You can make a front motor mount or you can buy one on one of the sites on the side of the forum.They will cost your around 20 to 30 bucks or you can make one yourself which will cost you less than 5 bucks.

I have a huffy cranbrook that I used for my first build and It makes a great Motorized Bike. I wish I had a few extra bucks to spend on a better bike but I didnt at the time.

There's a real simple answer MAXSIDEBURN - Move to Los Angeles!!

Anything you love about Scott, LA we have here. Plenty of cajun food, Saints bars, etc.

Plus great weather, girls, cars, clubs, bars, art, and badass meets of MB riders. 11 of us this past weekend for a 20 mile ride with two stops for beers!
 
Don't take Venice Motor Bikes too seriously (in regards to Geography). After all you can't expect someone from Italy to know too much about where things are in the US! :p

You are correct cams,
The Jet slant head LI kits we have do come with a 1.55 inch front mount vs's the same old, lame old 1.25 inch front mount. Lots of the older kits and grubees have the 1.25 inch front mount. Our engines connect directly to the frame of most beach cruisers.

Actually Venice our slant head kits here at Pirate Cycles have 1.55 inch front mounts and they connect directly to most beach cruisers. Whey do you tell people they are all the same? Most of the other kits have a 1.25 inch front mounts, but not all of them.

Also, the new slant heads here are probably the most powerful stock ht kits on the market today.
Far from the 66cc kits I first tested that would not make it up a little hill without a pedal assist. I tested many.

Our limited kits have Slant heads for more compression, Gen 4 muffs that actually breath, Extended clutch arms for easier pull, wider 1.55 inch front mounts. Simply more advanced than other kits on the market today. Lots of people are posting about them now and they are not the same as the all the other kits. PK80-J. check em out! Jim the manic, flybytaco, ridingrich, zeptonic, and many more have tested. These people can back this up.

I was unaware that you have the only kits that are different... (a extra 1/4"?, really???)
Post some side by side pics of the front mounts... (I'm curious to see the big difference.)

& also, post some dyno tests of how much more power yours have over everyone else's, I'd like to see that too.

Troyboy - I am new to this site but I find that all forum sites have this same attitude. You don't have to be an jerk to promote your product and you don't have to bad mouth other products. I am sure he said they were all the same because for the most part, with this little exception of your new slant head, they are all the same.

And you have to be crazy to say that a 66cc can't make it up a hill without pedal assist. I have a 49cc on a heavy Micargi limo cruiser with my 165lbs and I can make it up hills without pedaling. It's not that fast, but a lot faster than I could pedal.

Just promote your product and sell it's benefits. It comes off much better. Pretend your talking to people face to face, not sittin behind some computer half a country away. Venice is a nice guy. Be respectful.

other than not having lots of custom car/bike shops and specialty shops, and being constantly confused (LA with L.A.) Louisiana rocks. It's beautiful, we have the best food in the universe, TONs of festivals and other party venues, lots of culture, LOTs of booze, the nicest people you could ever meet, even a budding film industry of our own (at least in my specific area), a really good Miata club with some awesome twisty back roads (I have a first year Miata, really nice and customized).

I've never seen a motorized bicycle around though, haha.
 
One of these days I am going to visit. Get another bike built and we'll ride! Looks like a great place. I know lots of people here that have been and came back saying everything you mentioned about the people and food.

Grubee also has the wide front mounts on the 58 and 66cc motors.
 
last time i was in lousiana, in september 2005, you could find sportscar parts anywhere. on people's roofs, floating down the streets, embedded in alligators...

Ok, I just figured out what you are saying... Fairracing says that your front mounts are 1/4" WIDER than others!!! (for fat down tubes)
Most cruisers need the front mount to be LONGER to reach the curved down tube!!!!
So why are you telling everyone that your engines bolt directly to most cruisers when they really can't? :-{

& I still want to see some proof of your engines 'power' claims, (not what the factory claims)
