212 hf / schwinn delmar

thanks everyone for the kind remarks. i love riding the roadmaster its a little jerky at engagement but once you take off the bike is a dream you just feel that 212's power its like thunder when you hit the throttle great response with the mikuni. i think gearing might be the problem on engagement with to small of a back sprocket tried a 36, 45, i have a 54 tooth coming i hope that does the trick i will have to fab a idler to run a larger sprocket so i can clear the chain stays. but all i can say is that this bike is super dependable it never disapoints the worst problem ive had was when i broke the starter rope at the gas station lol. as i dont run any recoil..

thanks hobo the bike has been running real good i have no regrets building this one. hope this thread helps in your build there are also some other good 212 builds on this site do your home work before you start mistakes get expensive i know first hand lol

i mean it rly looks good though, you rly dont see that everyday, and i think it looks better than an actual motorcycle, much more sleek, and packed full of vintage awesomeness!
 
ive been working on this bike its the roadmasters little brother chicago schwinn with a 99cc preddy been working on the tank,clutch,and electrical, it has a fully charging electrical system. still lots of work left but if this charging system works as good as i think the roadmaster will also get one!!!

Do you have a build thread for this 99cc bike? I ask because I have a canti frame (Dyno) and am using a HF79 engine. The bolt mounting pattern for both engines is almost identical, so I'm looking for info on engine mounts. Are you running that 99cc stock? Request details on the engine mounts (and jackshaft) please!

Oh wait- that jackshaft is for your charging system???
 
i mounted both engines using the mirror mounts on the 99cc i used 3 mounts one in front 2 in back the lower rear mount holds the engine and pillow block for the jackshaft. then i just bent a piece of 1/4 plate to the right angles to line up with the mirror mounts drill some hole for the engine and your done! there are some pics of this on the 4stroke engines &kits section onpage 2 or 3 under 99cc preditor mount question. hope this helps. i know its better then the mounts ive seen any where else.

Looks very nice. What was your source for the aluminum mirror/CB mounts? Silverbear also just posted in that Predator mount thread and asked the same question for those of us with a 1" seat tube.

Also, looks like you used the Yerf-Dog stamped jackshaft plate for your transmission? If so, how do you like it? Thinking about getting on from BMI.

ugh i just got my motor mount, the adjustable one that i saw glenbo use for his 212 build so i thought it would fit perfectly and the motor mount plate is too short!!! any ideas on how i can remedy this?
 
you cant use a 50 cc mount plate with the mirror mounts you have to make your own plate its easy 1/4 inch plate,hacksaw,vice,torch,BFH.you might not even need the torch.

Maybe it's the camera angle doing it? This looks smaller than 1/4" thick plate to me? Maybe not. I am just envisioning trying to form 1/4" steel plate by hand to make such a sharp bend.

I have some .125" thick aluminum; wonder if that would be strong enough to make the engine mount if I were to bend down some strengthening ears?
 
your right its not 1/4 inch its 1/8 sorry bout that im not sure 1/8 inch aluminum will be strong enough if its just a flat plate

glennbo, i noticed in a couple of your pictures that you replaced the flywheel with a smooth looking one. how do you start it? where did you get your exhaust? or did you custom fabricate it?
 
i custom made my exhaust,the flywheel is a high performance billit if you remove the governor in your engine, you will need to upgrade the flywheel. stock flywheel is only good up to 3600 rpm. to start the bike i just wrap a rope around it and pull..
 
ya hahaha well i tried to start it and i thought it was the wiring but it was because the pushrods werent in those little dimples in the rocker arms. Anyways, i rode it today annnnd its freakin awesome. But i cant seem to get the throttle right. Its hard to explain but it will rev up fine, but after like half way it almost kills the engine. It wont go faster. Why is this? i am using a 23mm carb (not Mikuni or whatever) but one from a motorized bicycle kit. Also, i have to keep the choke at half way other wise when i use the throttle at all it kills the engine
