Took a good spill last nite on a MoonDawg Front fender bracket failed. Front end stopped and turned right. Me and the rest of the bike kept going but not real far. It had such great fender mounts I stopped checking them. Big time new guy mistake. I have said it dozens of times and read it hundreds, check your gear, most especially fenders. I face planted but was wearing a helmet. Some good gouges on right palm and left elbow and knee. The worlds biggest blood blister where one would have "love handles" also left side. Bike damage; Solar head light lens (light still works) Paint job is scraped up. A really great seat has road rash. (LOL, I am most upset about the seat) Broken clutch handle. (My last good one)

Just reiterating for my self most of all, Helmet and safety checks. That bracket was showing sighns of rusting out for a while. All I had to do was look at it!

Thanks to you Folks, I have become fanatical about the helmet thing. I doubt I would be out of the hospital by now (if not worse) with out one.

Thanks Buddy. Feeling amazingly good. No real pain at all. Am surprised. Was just sitting here thinking on how I was going to reattach. They really are great fenders. I am thinking forward and rear facing with some sort of plastic backup that alows it to fall enough to warn me but not enough to let it follow the wheel around. (I meant to do this last spring and never got around to it, snork)

We demand pictures.

Just kidding. Glad you are posting, sucks about the bike (and the seat)
LOL! I took pics of the wounds but I think that might be a lil 2 knarly for posting. Will post some of bike. Carol wanted me to paint it but I really kind of liked it. (Calls it the "electric avocado" is an odd shade of florescent green) My neigbors think there are 2 MBers in the Village. One has a green MB and the other is red. They ask me if I know the other guy, lol. "Not well, he is a bit of a jerk" Funny part, they like my PB red MB better

Well after looking at a few of the road wound pictures in the last few years, let's just hope it's not near dinner time.

Close up of the busted fender bracket is required, however.

Will do Pablo. Your right, should be pictured. As the warning discoleration was a very clear indicator it was about to fail.

Thanks Mekano and Doc! Pretty pain free right now. (beer and aspirin, lol)

Was just changing the bandages and realized if I had been wearing knee, elbow pads and gloves with the helmet, I would have one minor bit of damage instead of 5. Another thing (pads) I was meaning to get/do.

Was amazing and thank you Steve. Yeppers, out of no where. From "what was that?" to bouncing off the street was less then a nanosecond in my head. No time at all to react.

Folks just don't know how lucky they are sometimes. You Was Lucky! I had a guy decide I would take a right turn with him at a intersection. Bike horn nobody ever uses one of these in this situation. I bet my cursing could be heard a mile away. It did not help ether. Broke my clutch handle gouged the side of a GMC sierra full sized truck. The driver lit the wheels up and sped off. Nobody got a plate number, I guess it was just too interesting to watch me. Coming off the top of down hill triple tree forks really hurts. Had a deep bone bruise below the left knee for a year.Needed a new rear wheel as it was taco ed... Narrowly missed the rear tail gate seamed his speeding off might of helped. Thats about the time rear wheals were lit up.

Sorry to hear about that Dan... :( I reinforced my fenders with zipties. Seems to hold though... Get well soon and have a speedy and painless recovery... :)

Long time ago the first time I heard of the fender dilemma, I wrapped wire around the fender stays to my forks. Hasn't helped yet, but then again, fender bracket still in place.

TC and Zevo, that is a great thunk, zip ties or wire. Gonna try that!

Cool tom. Looking forward to hearing from ya. Had a question for you yesterday and left a message. That one funky answering machine voice. Sounds like Barry White after a 3 day binge in Vegas, lol

Wow Goat, a year? That's no fun.

Ran into the guy who picked me up. Lives 4 doors and a side st away and just met him that night. Turns out he had fallen off his roof a while back, bounced off his garage, landed in his drive way and was in a coma for 2 months. When I asked what he drank he replied that we will sit and have a beer some day, but he was just glad to help out a neighbor. Some good folks in this world. (..and I got gas all over the bed of his truck and blood in the cab)

Glad you did not get seriously hurt, I don't use fenders I rarely ride in the rain. You can fab up real strong fender supports from stainless steel rods. Not hard to fabricate and they will last a long time, 3X stronger than regular steel.
