Here are some "in progress" pics of the pipe that I am building in welding class...
My friend Jim who works in the tool room, used to design & build pipes at FMF.
(He totally talked me into building this.)
It will be kinda like the pipe on Ghost0's MB Cruiser, (just not as rounded.)
I made the header from the leg of a classroom chair, & some 3/8 flat steel for the flange. (^)
This is only the finished header; I will start making the expansion chamber on Monday...

The inside of the flange matches the port perfectly & blends into the pipe the same way.

Below, you can see how much bigger mine is compared to a stock pipe. (you can also see the brass bell hanging from the kickstand mount.)

Looking good so far. May I suggest making it adjustable? By adjustable I mean being able to change the distance from the exhaust port to the expansion chamber. Every bike, engine, gearing is different so to make it truly tuneable you need to be able to adjust the length. Can't wait to see more.

Yeah... We were planning on trying different lengths for tuning, but I think a slider system would save a lot of time. Thanks for the idea! (^)
I still have three more chair legs to make the final pipe! rotfl

You going to roll your pipe material with a slip roll? Grizzly sells a nice slip roller for around $200.00 I bought one this summer and it works pretty good a little practice and you can form nice cone or tubes.
I like the idea of using a chair leg for the header I've used conduit or stock head pipes for adjusting just cut then re weld. For cheap metal for the pipe I get hood skins or door skins from body shops they will give them to you.

Here's the finished pipe... I made the expansion chamber from large spray cans & my friend in welding class tig welded it for me while I was out of town... It used to have a long stinger on it, but I cut it off for more power.
It works pretty well, but it's a little too loud!!!
