I just outted with it and set it up so I don't have to worry about a slack chain. It was only left on for a test ride and that's when it happened. None the less gotta get another, before I blow an inner tube.

Yeah.. I need to invest in a new rear rim... Chain tensioner before it was deleted tore a spoke out. Need to upgrade the rear rim to a less wide on anyways. Any ideas on where I could get a good rim for a decent price? Might go ask the bike shop down the road.
One of the better places I know of, I told xseler about this place and he got him a nice wheel there also, great prices on the 12ga spok3ed wheels, and they have them with a good Shimano coaster hub if thats what you want or of course a good multispeed type you can put a 22T freewheel on and tha5 makes a nice setup when you have a caliper on the rear and a good disc or V Brake up front.

thei page is just the 26x1.75 wheels they also have a great selection of the 26x2.125 if you like the wide ones.

hay im a believer in the HUB ADAPTER for the bikes I wish they would give them in the kits LOL
Yeah I like them also, I dont m8nd ragjoint set up on 12ga spokes, bu5 although Ive had it work out for a long time on 14ga spokes Ive also had spokes on two different wheels break from the torque of the rag joint coupler on them, both times the spoke broke under the coupler and I didnt even realize it was broken for a while, I still have bike running the rag joint setup, but eventually I plan to have the better sprockets and clamshell coupler on all my personal bikes, a lot less chance of broken spokes that way and Im gonna have wheels with 12ga spokes on the rear of all of them also.

Some of us put a lot of time and money into the bike and engine but neglect the importance of good heavy tubes, good tires and wheels with quality heavy gauge spok3s at least on the rear wheel and having a suspension fork of some kind that actually works on the cront take a lot of the po7nding off the front wheel and tire also.

crapped out engine may leave you peddling home, but a blown tube, busted tire or busted up rwheel could put you in the hospital or worse, Im thinking an extra $100 spent to get good wheels that can take a beating is a good thing if at all possible.

i gotta agree on the wheels and tires... most of us tend to spend a lot on the engine and making the bike look good but fall short when it comes to the wheels and tires... Some bikes already have nice tires that can take the beating a 40+mph bike can dish out, but for the most part, most bikes just come with the cheapest tires that fit the rim, or the rims are really nice with decent hubs but laced with these flimsy 14 gauge spokes.. So far I haven't busted any spokes on my setup but I did see signs of them being over stressed when I changed sprockets a few weeks ago...
After I do the repairs on my frame I'll most likely at least lace in some 12 ga spokes on the rear rim because the ones on the rag joint side were bent up pretty good when I took off the rag joint. I'm also planning on switching to the clamp on hub adapters in all my builds as well since I saw just what teh rag joint does to the spokes, you can't see it with the rag joint installed but when removed you can easily see these spokes are bent.
What I'd really like to do is put a set of those cast alloy wheels on my builds but these can be pricy and they're still quite a bit heavier than a regular rim with heavy duty spokes...

Yep, I have seen serious signs of spoke stress on all my wheels with 14ga spokes and a rag joint setup, like you said Dave, you dont know the damage is there until you remove the coupler rubbers and then you see all the deformed spokes, just not a good thing on a 40+mph bike in my opinion, never seen an6 of that damage on my wheels with 12ga spokes, they're way stronger and dont deform under the stress of the kit coupler, but if possible at all no doubt the clamshell adapter is the berries since it puts athe power on all the spokes and not just half of them and they dont get tweaked real hard right down at the hub either like the rag joint does them.

Dont get me wrong, the rag joint has served many of us well for a long time and does work good, bu5 I think it is much safer and beeter if used on a wheel with at least 12ga spokes.

we can get an adapter and sprocket for $45 and a good heavy spoked wheel for $35-$55 now depending on whether you want the ccheaper multispeed wheel or a coaster wheel with a Shimano E110 hub.

So with shipping a person is looking at approx. $100-$120 for the good stuff right to their door, not a bad price to pay for confidence of the drive train being much safer and potentially much more reliable over time.

Jordan, let me be the first to say you did a great job, not many young men these days that have the gumption or the mechanical ability to do all the things you've done since your bike project began.

Makes me proud to see you end up with such a nice bike, I hope it gives you many many miles of fun and reliable transportation, wish we didnt live so far apart, Id love to hit the back roads with one of my bikes and just go for a nice cruise.

Great job Jordan and I hope when you decide to do the #2 project you'll share that one with us just the same as you have with this one.

Thanks Shan, big shout out to you for answering my nonsense questions about basically every aspect of the engine itself! I think our PM's got into a little over a hundred. The bike is a blast just need to find some good areas to ride it in! Going to Illinois this weekend so I plan on thoroughly breaking it in this weekend! It'd be a blast to go on a ride! You ought to come up for the Midwest meet in the summer ha! Project #2 is already in the planning... Haha... Can't keep still for too long. I want to make a race bike and I am feeling some reeds and high octane on it!

Jordan I'll tell you like I tell everyone, Im willing to help anyone who is willing to help themselves and willing to listen.

There is a lot I dont know and still have to learn myself, but whatever I do know or have a good idea will work, Im very willing to share, some people get off on keeping secrets because maybe it makes them feel superior in some way to know something someone else doesn't, but Im no ego maniac and I enjoy sharing all I know and figure out so we can all enjoy our engines as much as possible if I have something to contribute that will help.

No reason for anything to be top secret in a hobby like ours in my opinion and I dont have much use for people who horde info that could help other build a better bike or engine.

If I wasnt a full time working fella Id love to head your way this summer but the honey dooooos and job just wont permit it unfortunately.

Looking forward to seeing the beginning of the #2 build

yea great5 build very nice want to come work for me LOL I just put together a bike today
Nice looking Thruster.

Im thinking Im gonna put a 24" rear wheel on my green Thruster and put a set of the curved springer forks on front with a 26" on front, the bike just rides a bit high for me and I think the ccurv3d springer front end will soften the ride a bit also, I just have to figure out how to keep the Mags from going out on that bike......lol just fried the 3rd one in only about 100 or less miles, never had one go out on any of my other engines since 2009.... that green paint is bad luck on that bike or something.....lol

I have several new mags on oreder so hopefully the 4th one will be a charm and break the curse.

No havent done that to an6 of them, My first engines from 09 and 2010 are still running fine also, never had a bad mag until this particular engine, I know one thing, a bad cdi will fr6 the mag, i5 was running fine with the newest mag, I decided to hook up a cdi I had that was suspect and well..... yep it was bad and it also killed the mag, so the 3rd one was really my fault, needless to say that cdi won5 be getting hooked up to another mag coil....lol

I can see how the liquid tape or ever a good brushing over the coil with plasti dip may be a good idea. I seal around my wiring good with silicone and use gasket on mag cover so no moister gets in mine.

I thunk I just had a bad experience since the bad cdi is what killed the first mag, I put a very old and oily mag from a junk engine in it and it lasted a few rides, I put newest one in andit was running fine until I hooked up the same cdi that killed the first mag so I think once I get a new mag in and get it done up good it should be good to go for a long time.

Ive decided to start carrying tools and a new cdi and mag on my bikes though, peddling 8-10 miles home against the wind and mostly up hill sucks.........!!!!!

Hey thanks guys I appreciate it. This build might have one more mod on it and it's been one I have been wanting to experiment with too. Hoping for a good turn out!
