i know mike i miss the can do weather but i do not miss the killing and mayhem

there is virtually no homicide here in belgium only occassional suicides --must be the weather --- cloudy skies can be pretty depressing and somber
Ain't nobody died (run over by a car) in LA since like 2 days ago. It's perfectly safe here.......as long as you're not a pedestrian......then it's open season. But that's pretty much all year round. Buba! LOL

You know you miss it Buba!

Hi B
the center picture is a jet ski engine-- i think!!

found it in my scavenging scrap yards and thought it was cool
heavy cast iron block and head --
maybe could be used in some on land application --certainly water cooled!!

THANKS SILVERBEAR FOR POSTING!!! --yeah mike squeeze me in baby

Zundapp-- no spark having to investigate the points and coil !!

winter rains are upon us --flooding in Venice Italy!!

sure takes the motivation out of doing things -scrounging -and doing much more than staying cozy in bed and reading in the warm kitchen

last night welding class got in 3.5 hours of mig practice on heavy 3/8s steel hard to hold a straight line and the metal sure gets hot doing a 12 inch run

over and over again-- getting better though
teacher is a perfectionist and should be the other students wanting to weld professionally must do welds that pass x-ray examination for construction and pipe line work etc.

welding class has continued to be great for learning practice and making some new friends

i have also found like most things in Belgium-- everything is more expensive than in the good ole USA

gas tanks for MIG machine rental 100 euros and fill 50 euros for one year only

purchase 300 euros
1 euro = 1.35 dollars

thinking of going to Leuven this sunday for a motorcycle swap meet--beurs
take train 6:45 am then walk 5 kilometers or hopefully find a bus -- but at that hour especially on a sunday it is doubtful one will be in service!!

unusually warm break in the dreary damp cold rain has allowed me to run my china girl all over town sporting a 100 year old leather seat and one of the five laid back seat posts i made in my welding class that i identified from a book of Belgian motorcycles on a Marck motorbike of its day

weather and difficulties finding things readily available in Los Angeles has slowed my chop twist and splice activities a bit though various pieces of mzetal tubing and such have begun to clutter the entrace to my home here

abrasive disks here are so incompatible for my european black and decker circular saw and the old heavy duty wood chop saw that i want to use as a metal chop saw -- made a few adapters out of bicycle seat post of all things!!

well soon to chop and weld

my flipped frame dutch style ladies bike is pretty cool, just needs a tensioner for the pedal chain

ride safe and let your mind soar!!

Thanks,

That would make for an interesting build if it would work...

Maybe a couple stacked together for a Henderson type mill, Ha!

Nice adventure you got going on there! Do you speak French?

A tough teacher is a good teacher!

Hey Buba,
This coming weekend I'll get another batch of photos uploaded... or is it downloaded? Loaded anyway.

It looks like you're having a great learning experience.

As I look at some of your pictures I admit to not knowing quite what you're up to, but it is obvious that whatever it is you have a fevered, creative mind and a lot of enthusiasm for what you're doing. I say go for it. I think maybe the fact that we are doing something is more important than exactly what we're doing.

I have my own strangeness, eccentricities I guess you'd say. For one, I'd rather shop at the dump than one of the malls filled with new junk. I like old junk and the price is much more in line with my finances.

I have this idea, theory, what ever it is... that when we are in the throes of creative making we generate a kind of inner light which is greatly needed in our world... people who love what they are doing have a kind of brightness about them. Too many of us are involved in drudgery and our inner world is too often dark.. so in the end we contribute to the world's darkness, depression, hopelessness.

Consider the surgeon who hates his work, does not want to go to the hospital and can't wait to get on the golf green... performs his surgeries mechanically with resentment, perhaps thinking of how much money his trophy wife is costing him. On one level he is doing important work, but on another level he is part of the darkness.

And consider the old woman who is humming to herself as she creates clunky doll clothes for her grand daughter from scraps of fabric. The clothes are made without skill but with a lot of love and she is having a wonderful time herself being a child again... she is shining her light and from the vantage point of the planet as a living, breathing being her light contributes more to global well being than the doctor's dark labors.

That's how I see it, anyway, tending always to see the spiritual aspect of things. I'm sure many would disagree with me or the world would be a brighter place than it is. I always advise young people to "follow their bliss" in the words of Joseph Campbell, to discover what it is that lights them up and then do that, to let that joy guide them in their lives.

So my friend, whatever fuel you're running on, it is high octane. Your welding tip gives off sparks and so do you. More power to you, Buba. Keep smiling...
SB

SB, What you just said was beautiful!
I was thinking that what Bob was doing was kind of strange; but now I see what you mean about him having enthusiasm for it & truly enjoying it! :)

This really hit home with me because four years ago I walked away from a good paying career to follow my heart & build these bikes full time, (even though many people thought I was a fool to throw away a solid career to make less money).

I know what you say is true because many people have told me how happy I seem now.

SB, you are one of the 'bright lights' on this forum... Thank you for just being here! (^)

i just wanted to thank ?accept ? encourage??? all that you have posted SILVERBEAR
I feel strongly that your life experience and the solitude of your current environs allows you to think- contemplate- and realize the many truths and lies that all peoples around the world are confronted with on a moment to moment basis

yes unfortunately there is too much darkness in our world and not enough love!!

i HAD HEARD A RECENT STATISTIC THAT 70 PERCENT OF AMERICANS HATE THEIR WORK
HOW PRODUCTIVE -SATISFIED AND HAPPY CAN ONE BE IN LIFE IF YOU HATE YOUR WORK AND THINK OF HOW THE MANY RAMIFICATIONS MANIFEST THEMSELVES IE. THE RASH OF MASS MURDERS AND SUICIDE KILLINGS BY EFFECTIED INDIVIDUALS--LONLINESS--DEPRESSION --
RELATIONSHIPS ALL ASKEW -- WASTED TIME AND LOST DREAMS!!

typing away and looked up to see the keyboard went to capitals-- such is destiny!!!

anyway pursuing one´s dreams and ambitions without interference of the naysayers and the negativists is extremely important --especially if in truth you do want to accomplish your goals and not fall prey to the poor me and i am a victum syndrome--- therefore i can´t do it or succeed!!!

CONSCIOUS LIVING IS NUMBER ONE AND ALL THE RESPONSIBILITY THAT COMES WITH IT!!!!!

i do not want to ramble on at this time but ---maybe later

FIRE IN THE BELLY --BY Sam Keene worth reading if you have not already ---of course all of Joseph Campbell´s writings
relationships ----nothing better than Harville Hendrix(icks)? -- Getting The Love You Want -and - Keeping The Love You Find

thanx

Let your mind soar, but keep your feet squarely on your pedals and both hands on the handlebars......... is what I always like to say.

I want to thank you guys for your very kind words. It means a lot to me and gives some confirmation to what I believe to be true. Norm, I'm glad for all of us that you made the choice you made four years ago

Some years back in 1995 my life was changed in a moment by a bolt of lighting which entered my left ear and made it's exit between my eyes, out the forehead and crown with bleeding burns. I got a badly impaired memory and a traumatic brain injury out of the deal but I still wake up every morning and still know my name. A few years after that the nerve damage led to a condition similar to polio called Guillane Barre Syndrome which left me crippled for a time and I fully expected the condition to deteriorate further and die from it. I did a give away and waited around for what I thought was coming, got bored waiting and forced myself to walk and to make it a little more each day. That first winter a walk to the mailbox and to carry in firewood was all I managed. That was also the winter I bought a dead bikebug motor on ebay, tinkered with it and put it on an old Schwinn by early summer, thinking that I might be able to ride it even if I couldn't pedal much. I was still walking every day, still increasing the distance... quit using a cane and by the end of summer I one day walked 18 miles and declared my self no longer crippled. The GBS is still there and never improved, but I improved. My upper legs learned to compensate for what the lower legs could no longer manage.

During that dark winter when I thought things were coming to an end I felt pretty low, depressed, and was aware of just how dark my life had become. I also realized intuitively that the best defense against the dark is to generate your own light, as much of it as you can. It was a powerful understanding which has served me well. For me, making things gives me joy, just thinking about making things will, too. For someone else it might be singing, or dancing or running or who knows... we are all of us different. Anyway, I think it is important to do things that make you happy and when you're happy it spreads out to others, just like when Aaniimoosh and I go riding with her in her canoe sidecar and wearing her doggles and me tooling along on a classy old bicycle under motor power. People smile and wave and I can see that it makes them happy, too. How good is that?
