The results and trophies for the 11 HP Class got overlooked again!

Only two 11 HP legal bikes finished in the race so:

UPDATED RACE RESULTS Mid Range Class.

Very serious about a fun affordable 99/79 cc HF spec class that
will be scored separately in the Mid Range Class.

The 79/99 cc Harbor Freight motors are the smallest cc motor in the class
and the lowest stock HP. Not a lot of performance parts available too.
A fairly easy and cheap race bike to build!

I don't know why CCC's 99 cc HF did not race?

A well earned and deserved 1st place at that!


Yeah my nearly stock 99cc pred is really powerful, let me see all the mods I've done to this 96lb. performance commuter.

The parts list:

One stock HF 99cc Predator engine brought into state from Michigan.
One re-worked (bored out) stock carb I won at a race from generous sponsor AGK.
One exhaust flange and a high flow air filter from AGK as well from the races.
One homemade square intake manifold (made by me) and a super awesome exhaust system made by me as well.

The performance modifications:

Took side cover off engine and removed most of the internal governor parts, left the plastic gear and the weights in.
Adjusted the valve lash that did not need adjusting.......tight tolerances from the factory (see build thread).
Fashioned a quick make-shift exhaust from AGK flange and existing parts (including RLV muff).
Made an intake manifold out of 3/4" square steel tubing and the flanges from 3/16" steel flat stock.
Bored out stock black plastic intake insulator for better flow and even left the stock LG spark plug in the engine.

That is it.......a super high performance, virtually stock Harbor Freight 99cc 2.5hp racing engine (that may be close to 3.5hp) that blew the doors off the competition in the mid-class at Grange!

No head, high-compression, large valves, racing cam, billet anything.........how in the heck did I do it ?????

Gee, I'm a lot better rider than I thought!

EDIT:whoops, I forgot about 2 very important factors.........I cut off every other blade on the plastic cooling fan and I'm running a 12:1 gear ratio

also with the 3 classes breaking into sub classes, things are getting confusing. at least for me

One recomendation that I would like to make is group the subclasses together on the starting line for the finals.

that's a good idea, steve.

if you group classes together, it'd be cool to start the faster bikes in the back. maybe even let the slower ones hit the first turn, then start the second group.

I think the safest way to start would have the faster racers first then slower, and slowest. start each group as they finish the first turn. just for the simple fact that they are slower. my .02

I know I read in an earlier post that the unlimited class doesn't require functioning cranks anymore.

The only reason that was stated was because of the 2 Nopeds that
are really in their own class.

All the motorized bikes need functioning cranks to be scored
and eligible for trophies and prizes.

However life is not black or white or cut and dried so if
a rider showed up at the races with a motorized bike that
had no pedals they would be given an exemption and could
race in the class but would be not be scored or get trophies.

That is what happened with ShuttleBuddy and his 5 speed
50 cc Motoped at a previous race that you protested.

ShuttleBuddy makes and sells that Motoped, they didn't build
it to race so they got fit in to a fun and inclusive racing event.

Yeah, I gave him a T shirt because he donated a bunch of T shirts
as prizes.
ShuttleBuddy will be back at the June 1st race. They are cool guys
and we are talking about some joint promotions.

I don't understand the bolded part of your post.
You rode on the track on April 13th.

I typed up an answer but your questions brings up a lot of issues seeing
that you mentioned that you are disabled and have safety concerns about
your clutch. The length of cranks is the least of all of your and my concerns.

I will get them all answered soon.

I talked to our EMT service and he needs to talk to his attorney about your
disabled status.
I also need to talk to Jim Granger and a few other people.

We have 40 days to the June 1st race.

There will be a full set of SoCal Motor Bicycle Racing rules posted very soon
and every participant will be issued a copy at the gate when you sign in.

Also the rules will be posted on the notice board at Grange Motor Circuit for
spectators who want to start racing.

There aren't any changes because of adding a 79 / 99 cc Harbor Freight sub class.

The 99 cc HF bikes will race in the Mid Range class like always but will be scored separately and will get trophies and hopefully prizes specifically for that class.

Obviously you couldn't race a GX 120 and a 79 /99 cc HF because they are mixed together in the same Mid Range race.

Theoretically a 99 cc HF could win both the 79 / 99 cc HF class and the Mid Range
class.

I think the 99 cc sub class will be very popular as it would be a very affordable
but fun racer that could double as a great street commuter.

looking around on the forum there are a lot of very cool 99 / 79 cc HF builds.

Who knows where the class will evolve too and yes the Mid Range heats and
finals will basically stay the same.

The 11 HP and Unlimited Class work the same way.

Then we have the 66 / 49 cc 2 Stroke "China Girl" Classes.

It's not going to be that hard to sort out who is in what class.

If you win the Amateur Class you move up to the Intermediate Class.

The Amateur Class will get another shot at winning that Grubee frame
from Piston Bikes again on June 1st and CR Machine is a great new race
sponsor. I haven't talked to JN Motors Bikes yet but they said they will
be racing in the PRO class on June 1st.

The most growth in our sport will come from new racers in the "China Girl"
Classes.

Exciting times for our 7th race and big 2 year anniversary in June.

We would prefer that you use a full face helmet and Jim Granger will
let you use one of his go kart rental full face helmets with leaving
security so it gets returned.
Grange Motor Circuit has a large selection of full face helmets and head
socks.

Do you have the rest of the gear?
Knee and elbow pads?
Gloves?
Boots?

The plan is to buy at wholesale a bunch of pads at a great price and either
sell or rent them.
Gloves too.

Questions are great, You new riders are the life blood of our races so
thank you for getting involved.

Support systems to get you on the track safely are being planned to
ensure that you have too much Fun so you keep racing!

Footwear / boots just have to be closed toed of course and to provide
ankle protection.
Really don't want to see anyone scraping their ankles on the pavement.

Please don't forget your gloves and eye protection.

I can give you some good recommendations on pads. Some work
better than others and won't slide up and off in a crash.

Being properly protected is for your own good and the vast majority of
crashes you will pop right back up and get right back into the race.

Every race thread has the info on how to enter a race with safety gear
rules on the first page and all the basic info, price, where, special events, etc

If you keep coming to the races you keep your number.
