I don't think they're replacing the Greyhound with that. They say it's a 99cc engine that is a replacement for 2 - 2.5 hp engines. Whereas the Greyhound is listed as a 2.5hp engine, they are listing this Predator engine by cc (like Briggs & Straton now does), and saying that it replaces engines in the 2 - 2.5hp class. They also say to preorder, limited quantities available. That leads me to believe it won't be replacing anything in their lineup.

I notice the shipping weight as being 1lb........gee that's a mighty light motor for it's size :D This is almost the perfect size(power wise) engine for our motorized builds.....I think try to get one into California from outta state.....we'll see.....:D

This looks a whole lot like the 79CC greyhound. I wonder if it has the same footprint? Could be the same basic engine with a bigger bore. Anyone know? If it is no wider than the 79, I'd like to try it in my 53 cantilever Schwinn I'm working on right now. The extra 20CCs would be nice on long steep hills... more grunt. i think the 79 width is at the max for me. It is a wide engine, any bigger and I'd get bow legged and might as well get a horse. I'd also like to know of any mods being done to the 79 to get more power out of it.

There's a link to click on the HF page listing the engine so that you can download the owner's manual. Might give more clues on what this is. What I most want to know are the engine dimensions to see if it is bigger and if so, by how much. The 79cc pretty well fills up a Schwinn cantilever frame, but there's still a wee bit of room left.
I see the bore and stroke is 56mm and 40mm, crankcase holds 1/3 quart of oil. There is a diagram showing the bottom of the engine for mounting holes. I'll have to dig out the 79cc manual to compare. Wish they would give weight, engine dimensions.

Looking at the product manual this engine does not have the low oil shut off like the Greyhound. The mounting footprint is very close to the same. The Greyhound is 102mm x 61.5mm and the Predator is 104mm x 63mm. The 79cc is 52mm x 38mm bore and stroke where the 99cc is 56mm x 40mm bore and stroke.
I would bet the physical dimensions are pretty close too.

It does look promising, doesn't it? I'm not going to prepay for one, but will wait until they come out and I know that I can squeeze one into the cantilever frame. There is still a bit of room, but not much. The footprint is close enough to not matter. So long as the height isn't an issue, then it should work, but I'll happily let you buy one first. Ha! I have a new 79cc I was going to use on this new build I've started, a 53 Schwinn I'm building wheels for with a moped drum hub up front, 12 g spokes and 52 rims. Rear hub is a Bendix coaster. I'm using a 1960's Herculese (Sachs) moped front fork and have an in frame tank made for it out of electroplate tin. It will get a matching tin transmission cover. If that Predator engine will fit it would be a welcome bit of extra grunt on these long and steep hills in north central Maryland. With the 79cc I can make most of them without pedaling, but pulling a trailer with the dog drags it down some. Whatever the actual displacement, it is putting out more than the 79 so that has to help. Hope it works out.

Am really liking this. Love the Greyhounds, well every thing but the blue paint job. So if this is even close in size, I might be switching.

I will gladly volunteer to be the gini-pig. Thats mighty cheap for a 99cc engine. About a hundred bucks with a coupon.

Just thunked about it. Really want to try an odd tranny (not a reduction gear) Be a good excuse. "It's only money Alice"
LOL, name of a boat I saw in Fla. I say that to my self every time I spend on experiments.

Down loaded the manual to both brands the bolt patterns for mounts are close (Greyhound 63mm x 104mm) Predator 61.5mm x 102mm
