As the name implies, Rube Goldberg , a contest to build a ridiculously complicated (but safe) MotorBicycle. Where points are awarded for achieving a goal such as braking, gear reduction or propulsion etc, in the most round about and complicated way.

Will be a team contest where the Capt. is the builder and can have up to 5 people on his or her team. The Captain will do the actual building and must be well tooled. (insert joke here) The team members contribute ideas and concepts via internet, phone etc or hopefully live close together. (could represent states or regains) This will allow folks who may not have the tools or funds to participate and give all the chance to make those dumb things that make no sense, but we wanted to any way.

Final day for entry is the first day of spring. The trophy and bragging rights will be held by the winning team until the following winter when they have to defend their title once again, for the first time.

The trophy will be a rock with an oil gauge attached. I have not broached the subject with our host or MotoredBikes.com: Motorized Bicycle Forum - Powered by vBulletin but will ask that a "World Series Rube Goldberg MB be competed for during the summer. Final entry, first day of fall. That trophy will be the Rusty wrench. Also to be held by the winners for one year.

Re: Rube Goldberg MB Contest

Great to hear! (read) Thanks BA and Nunya. Gonna write FinFan and eDJ and ask em to join in. Any one ever hear from them? Hate when folks fall off the map.

As always, is a democratic deal and majority rules on rules. That's a rule, well rule of thumb. But final winner will be voted by the participants. Only rule is a team or individual can not vote for their own work or entry.

Cool Nunya! Can ya give a hint or keeping your thoughts under wraps? Given your talents, am really looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
I am thinking for my entry, duel propelled 4 and jet smoke. DIY stretch frame.

Thing I really like about this, not the best, easiest or conventual way to do some thing is rewarded. Bet some really great stuff will be developed. "Death to the Box!" Or thinking inside one. Box free zone?

Sorry Dan, my thoughts are really just dreams at this point. I will be going to my grandfathers in the Ozark Mountains in the next few months though. And he has a welder, pipe bender and other things needed for a nice custom build. I will most definitely be talking to him about that.

Re: Rube Goldberg MB Contest

Cool! Thanks Sgt & Vista!

Making scrap today, (read trying to teach myself MIG welding) Had a thought. "Gonna be me alone defending the not terribly coveted Rusty Wrench" LOL. It would not have been pretty.

Vista, your signature cracked me up. Reminds me of my dog. Shelly De'wonder Dawg. She is pretty much in charge. Have to let her in the front door only to let her out the back door to relive herself. Then she want's back out front to hang out in the shop. (converted garage)((she can't weld either))

Re: Rube Goldberg MB Contest

I've made a lot of real kick ass Rube Goldberg's. The problem is, it was never what I started out to do, more like what I ended up with.

If I actually tried to make one it would probably be crappy.

Dan, That's funny. I knew a few pets that thinks they are all that and a bag of chips. (Glances over to my cat) ((She can actually lay down a good bead, how do you think I've made my bike last so long?))

Re: Rube Goldberg MB Contest

Was rambling on Lowracer's thread, 'She's Alive' "a front wheel drive using a in-frame pump and a small rack mounted tank for what ever fluid is used. Or pump rack mounted and tank forward." Just a thought if any one cares to try it.

Actually, would really enjoy seeing it done. Be pretty wild. Read over complicated with lil to be gained. Snork, so it would be perfect.

Re: Rube Goldberg MB Contest

Great idea for a contest. I don't think I will spend the time to do my own build, but I've got a few ideas. If someone wants me on their team, I could even make some parts and send them in the mail (or would that be to complicated?)

Re: Rube Goldberg MB Contest

Not at all complicated. Exactly the goal. Your expertise would be greatly appreciated StreetStrip.

Side note, there are a lot of MBers right near you. Just find it funny how there seems to be clusters in some areas.
