Flat tire warning

I rode to the store today and when i came out the rear tire was flat.
Cruiser tires get flat very easy. There was a free air machine at the store and I had a patch but it would not stick and i didnt hav glue.
Luckly i had plastic ties to tie the tire to the wheel so the tire wouldnt come off while i walked the bike 1 mile home.

If anyone goes far from home carry patches,glue,tire inflator,or a spare tube.
A airless solid tube probally would be best on the rear wheel.

there are instant patches you can buy i have some there only abought 2 bucks there called
slime instant patch or something like that(no glue)

Scabs....they are called scabs, you will need to carry a pump too.

Bought one of those airless tires had to soak it in the hot tub for about 2 hours to get it soft enough that I could pry it onto the wheel of my friction drive. No doubt it would wear pretty good but made the bike ride like an iron wheeled wagon. I always carry 2 spare tubes and a couple CO2 cartridges I don't leave home without them. Its easier to install a new tube on the road and patch it when you get home. Maintain your tire pressures daily a soft tire and a pinched tube can be disastrous on a motor bike going 25 to 30 mph. Believe me I know.

My rear wheel is a black mountain bike wheel with a cruiser tire and my front wheel is silver cruiser bike wheel with cruiser tire.
Well when i got home i changed the tube on the rear wheel and changed the cruiser tires for mountain bike tires front and back and changed the front wheel for a black mountain bike wheel. I also cleaned the whole bike and ziptied all my spokes front and back. i also took off my vibrating metal front fender and im thinking of making or buying a plastic one.

Looks like i will carry my airpump and spare tube with me, until i can think of something else.

I carry two tubes ,two patch kits, a set of tire levers, a co2 inflator and a hand pump. I have knobbys on mine and have worn the tread slick on the back in 430 miles. Maybe I carry too much stuff.

i have a beach cruiser i bought some keplar tires around 20 . bucks plus i also install the slime liner i had them about 5 months and so far not a single flat

If you want a really robust tyre combination, there is a trick that i use on my bicycle trailer as it constanty used to get pinch flats with a heavy load and bad roads.

Trailer tyres are 16 inch.
I use a 16 x 1.75 tyre and place it inside a Maxxis Hookworm 16 x 1.95 tyre and use a thorn proof tube.
Bingo - never had a flat tyre on the trailer since using a double tyre conversion.

I've never had a flat tyre on my Mountain Bike using 26 inch thorn proof tubes but i guess you could use the same principle and cut the wire bead out of a 26 x 1.75 tre and place it inside a 26 x 2.125 tyre and use thorn proof tubes to beef up resistance to flat tyres.

Back in the day when I use to do a lot of mountain bikeing, I always carried a an extra tube. If you blew one out on the trail, take it home and patch it and it becomes your back up for the next go round.

Or you could do what a kid I know did to his BMX so he could ride it on ice, he but a bunch of zip screws in the tires so he basicly had cleats, and then he pumped a bunch of that fix a flat for cars stuff into them. It seemed to work when he was showing it off, but I would be curious to hear from some one a little more on the normal side how such a set up works.

I have drilled a hole in the rim opposite the valve stem hole & put 2 tubes in only on the back wheel so far to see how it goes,seems fine balances the wheel as well,put 40 psi in each,theory is if one gets punctured still ok to ride although pressure likely to drop perhaps just use one at a time?

How did you inflate both tubes without getting a flat from folded tubes inside the tire?

Im guessing he put the tubes side by side around the whole wheel,that way if u get a flat it would probally only hit one tube and then you could inflate the non flat tube with more air to take up the space.

But so far my mountain bike tires are holding up ok.

i got a flat yesterday in my town i went to walmart and got some patches and something called slim flat protector tube liner its got a money back guaranteed if it dosent work i geuss for 10 dollars you cant go wrong

I was gonna start a thread about this. Apparently this is common practice with long distance riders. I would think though you'll need some talcum powder or equivalent so the tubes don't wear each other out.

I haven't looked at one in awhile, but the tubes I worked with were covered in talc. or something to make then slide into place

I learned long ago with other bikes: there are neighborhoods that you just don't ride through. They're the same ones you wouldn't walk through at night. In places like that there's always screws, nails, glass, sharp rusty metal, and various pointed whatnot just laying in the street waiting for a tire to get stuck in. The streetsweepers never go there because it's too shady. If there's any significant amount of trash on a street, I won't ride there. Haven't had any flats since I began this policy.
