deacon came up with the idea to have a junk yard build and i think it is a great idea. originally we thought about giving a complete motor for first prize however after considering it for a long time i have decided to give away lots of smaller prizes. reason for this is the contest will be on the honer system. i want it to be fun. i am still working out the details but i hope to have it so everyone wins something. pablo has offered amsoil for your 2 stroke bicycle motor, norman has offered one of his fantastic lights that run of the white wire of your motorized bicycle. i will be purchasing different items up till contest time to also give out like chains, chain breakers, dual break levers, tool kits ect. any ideas or input would be really appreciated. i think the contest will be great fun and the people in it can give updates and lessons on what they are doing to make their build. winners will be decided on the bicycle they build and how much they teach others. i will also be able to set it up that all the members can vote for the winners.

If we aren't going with a really valuable prize I think we need to be a little more lenient with the rules. Most of us who do this kind of junk building have lots of parts and bits and pieces of stuff laying around. I suggest we make it available to use. No sense buying a tire when I have ten laying about. Same with wheels and bike seats.

And no matter when you start time is not going to be a factor. I would set a final date as in all entries must be up and posted on or before and leave it at that. Give you snowbirds plenty of time for sure. But if we just lag it the thing can run for a while rather than have it all come flooding in at once. Then you can post the best from whatever time period to let people vote on. I can't see the value in having everyone build at the same time. Since like you said its pretty much an honor system.

Just start a new thread and then start taking pictures. None of us can compete with deacon though. He's an animal. He's also the most verbose, so if we come to a war of words, deacon wins.................rotfl

The summer junk build off is ramping up!

I think the rules are as follows-
Build something out of whatever you got.
Have fun.
Gotta run when done.

The ebike is done but i pulled it apart to work on the weed wacker again. I needed the drive wheel made from an 8" scooter back wheel assembly. This is my best and I hope last try at a weed wacker.

Couple of interesting things.
1. I'm mounting a sprocket (when and if it arrives) onto the weed wacker engine. going to have it chain drive to turn the 8" wheel. Since there is a large sprocket on the 8" wheel, I have no idea what kind of speed I will get if any.

2. I finally figured out a clutch mechanism for the rear engine. It consists of my wife broom handle, (We won't mention that to her just yet) and a brake cable.

Im still working on the throttle. If and when the front (engine) sprocket arrives... I should be able to test it after only a couple of hours more work.

Talk about a long project it has been a mess i'm telling you lol. It has also kept me sane (or maybe insane) for months.

By the way there was some talk once about a two cycle running backwards, Well I can tell you with a fair amount of certainty that the craftsman weed eater will not run backwards. I tried to start it backwards with no luck at all. It did start right up when I pulled it the way it was designed so I guess it has to do with the spark timing.,

I think they were saying that our crude piston ported two stroke engines will run backwards. I know some model plane engines will, some won't.

ah I can't speak to that... In my search for alternate engines i have a question for you... Does anyone know how a leaf blower fan is hooked to the crank shaft of the two strokes it uses. Just in general.
