I see that it doesn't have a front brake. Does that disc brake stop it good at speed?

No rear brake can stop as well as a front brake. The problem is that the rear wheel loses loading when decelerating, while the front wheel gains loading. So the harder you brake, the less traction you have available at the rear wheel and the more you have in front.

More than a modest rear brake is wasted, because it will just skid the wheel if applied hard. The front wheel is good for three to four times as much stopping power, if the front brake can supply it.

Nice looking and sounding bike, Dave. The Fat Franks add a lot to the look. Nice frame with lots of room for the motor. A front brake would be good. Love that SBP shift setup. (Not that I have one). It makes a big difference, doesn't it!

Are You saying a front dual disc would be better than front disc and rear caliper ? This is what I amfacing get a new frame with post mount rear brakes or relace a dual disc hub and go from 1 to 2 front discs?

No, go for the front disc/rear caliper combo. A decent disc has something like three times the stopping power of a caliper anyway, so the combination makes sense. But if they are going to be on a dual cable lever, make sure you get a disc brake designed for road bike levers-- Avid makes a special version of the BB7 like that. Most disc brakes use the same amount of cable travel as a linear-pull brake (V-brake), which is about twice as much as a caliper brake lever pulls. Dual cable levers are set up for caliper brakes, so they don't pull enough cable to work right with linear-pulls or most cable disc brakes.

Dual disc hubs are too narrow between flanges (to make room for the rotors), so you get a lot of braking but a weak front wheel. Not a good bargain, in my opinion.

I love BB7's one of the things I like about them is they can be set hair trigger[cable slack]. They can't even be remotely compared to V brakes [cable slack].(?) I can have them with a duel caliper brake handle like SBP has in there kits. It will through you off the bike. However the that particular duel brake handle will not favor one brake over the other very well. One needs 60% or better of the duty in the front.

This is my set-up on the same framed bike....it's a sure way to stop a 30+mph beast like this, with great control! It's a disc-brake and a v-brake controlled by a dual-pull, single lever on a Surley front fork.

This set-up is easy and modulates perfectly for massive front stopping power and no fear of going over the bars. With the Grubee band brake on the rear, working off of a single lever......grab a hand-full of both levers and stop on a dime, literally.

I forgot many folks will be using the smaller disk rotors[get the bigger rotors for the front]. That is a whole different animal. I use the bigger disk rotors like the down hill competition bikes use. Also what I ment by throw a guy off the bike I ment they can be adjusted that sensitive. I don't adjust mine that sensitive.

As fore a duel SBP style duel hand caliper aproach . Use a small disk in the rear and the largest one you can get in the front. That will be the bomb!

The shift kit is fantastic, I can idle along at 30. Cant wait for the engine to work in, if it had the power it'll do 50+... I have a disc and caliper already, just have to mount it up to the front, cuz its already too fast for just the rear disc.

Hey Chopper Dave, What size Was the down tube width and seat tube diameter on your caddy for the Sick Bike Parts jackshaft you ordered. I have that bike on order along with a new huasheng 4 stroke 49CC centrifugal engine I know which kit it takes but need to know those sizes to complete the order. can you help me out it'll save me waiting to receive the bike to place it if you would.

By the way, that's some tank you got there. That bike will go the distance. Are you lookin to cross the country?
