What are the best budget forks?

I am looking to get some forks that can last a lot of use. I ride my bike 30-40 miles a week and all the bumps are killing me. All the forks I have seen online seem to all have a bad review or they are pretty much for just the aesthetic and not meant for heavy use. I would say my max is around $100. Looking for something reliable and sturdy to last me a while.

I used the cantilever style Springer and it worked well on the bumpy roads. They are way under 100 bucks on Ebay.
You could also look for a used mountain bike fork. Most are very durable.

Like wheelbender said. Where I live in Wisconsin the Townships do garbage collection and recycling. The metal trailer will have discarded Mountain bikes occasionally.
I harvested two telescopic forks in excellent condition with V-brakes and cables. Free is hard to beat.

If your fork is threaded, a mountain bike fork can be tough to fit. You can cut the steering tube with a hacksaw if it is too long, but sometimes the threads do not extend far enough down the steerer afterwards. It prevents you from properly tightening the head set.
-If your fork is 1-1/8" threadless, mounting the telescopic for will be easy if the steering tube is long enough.

Medium to High tier MTB forks run alot more than $100 unfortunately. I have some "economy" suntour suspension forks on one of my pedal bikes and it works well. Like Tony said its either something like that, or USED items in this price range.

I've gone used for one of my other bikes, and it worked out too. But even some of the older used items can run $200 or $400 or more if its good stuff. Looking on ebay offerup or craigslist for used forks you're cutting a lot of options out if you're only looking at under $100 options.

I've found my Schwinn Sidewinder to be very comfortable I also added a suspension seat post. The bike new from Wal-Mart is around a total of $225. It was only ment for someone 5'10" and I'm 6'2". Therefore I did raise the handlebar height to where I ride in an upright position.

What I'm pointing out here is, you'll spend around the same amount of money trying to upgrade your current bike as you would buying the bike you actually need.

Just pick up some salvaged mountain bike forks. Free or really cheap. They make a huge difference.
