Stupid piston ring question

I was cleaning the engine looking for junk and relized that one of the piston rings were broke. Can I run my engine on one or do I need to order more or is there a alternative that I can do...

Don't run the engine with only one ring.

Pair of new rings is inexpensive and you will need to break the motor
in again.
Be careful that you put the rings in the right way around the piston
ring pins, is that how the ring got broken?
 
I really don't know. What I have been reading on the forum was that sometimes these china girl engines have pieces of metal in them from shipping. So I was searching for that, then I found pieces of the ring. Can you find me diagram of what to do so I know I am doing it right.
