This is most likely "old hat" for most as smart phones & tablets aren't anything new, but I figured I'd ask, to see what apps & devices others have, like & use - so please do post what you prefer (pics and/or links are greatly appreciated ofc). The following is obv an android... iphone/other is fine too, let's not bicker over that lol

Well, after almost a decade of faithful service I decided to retire my lil Garmin GPS. While it's rugged, waterproof & shock resistant (so I'll be defo keepin' it around lol), it's somewhat limited by today's standards (display & function), doesn't have the best battery life (2 AAAs) and lately, it's been taking forever to lock on to the satellites... still, given how cheaply you can find one used these days & how tough it is - if you're on a budget and want a reliable, bulletproof unit it's something to consider;

However, obv tech has come a long way since that thing was new & I've been suffering a bit of smart phone envy lol ...'cept ofc I hate phones - it's just I kinda dig everything they can do except harangue you with calls at 3am and cost you w/e a month to do so.

I ended up getting a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 instead as it does everything a smart phone does, without the phone & a Scosche IPHW9 Universal Mount to clamp it to the bars with. I didn't have a lot of faith in that mount as it's a "universal fit" from ol' wallyworld, but the Galaxy 4.2 is still so new they've not made cases/mounts for it yet, nevertheless it seems to hold it securely enough, if a bit gommy lookin' & bulky. The big surprise was it actually fit my oversized mountain bike bars, I'd expected "some modification necessary" lol *shrug*

Due to my deep seated phone phobia, I wasn't terribly familiar with mobile apps & it took me a lil while to sort the spam, to find the droids I was looking for (yea, bad geek joke w/e)... but in the end I settled on this combo for the motorized bike thing;

Ulysse Speedometer Pro
(there's a free version too BTW)

Google Maps (free)

As you can prolly see, the Ulysse Speedometer overlays on Google Maps (or everything if you choose) and as Google Maps lets you download for offline use (no wifi/cell service), there's no need to buy GPS map packages.

I recently got the cheapest smart phone I could find. It's a ZTE Score, whatever that is. My app for rides is MapMyRide. It's for pedal bikes but I don't see why it wouldn't work for a motorized bike. The app will give you speed, average speed, top speed, elevation changes, calories burned (although that would be WAY off on a motor bike) and it will map the route that you ride on google maps. You can save routes and race against yourself on the same route. It does a lot of stuff and I still haven't discovered everything about it yet. Oh yea, it is my favorite kind of app, it's free.

I just recently bought a handlebar bracket for my old Garmin GPS V to install on my ride which has been sitting in the closet for over 10 years. I remembered I had it because the electronic Schwinn speedometer I got at Walmart is inaccurate and I want to know for sure how fast, how long, and what elevation I'm in. Plus its waterproof and looks much cooler than the speedo.

Funnily enough, I bought a Schwinn bike speedometer for my first MB... then somewhat belatedly remembered my poor ol' Garmin just settin' in the shelf all forgotten like lol, so I gave the speedometer to a friend's kid & ran the far better GPS :p
