Nice how long do they typically take to wear out? This way i can be sure to keep them changed regularly. I have a maintenance schedule that my truck has recently fallen behind on and so its due for a tune up. So what would a good schedule for something like this ba?
 
with such a tight budget when ever the bike is done he wont have any budget to ride, I just ride 80 mile roundtrip doing a small mech job

Forget the bike kits. Yeah they're ok and a lot of fun if you don't have anything better. But if you have a line on a 2 stroke kid's dirt bike engine, get that. It will be more work, but a way better engine. Plenty of builders on this forum run these little kit engines while wishing they could afford to upgrade to a dirt bike engine.
You can buy the 40 tooth sprocket and rag joint separately for probably $10 from the same sellers who sell the kits. You will need 420 chain. Easy to find on the internet or any motorcycle shop.

Best way to upgrade your brakes is to swap the entire front end (fork, wheel etc.) for one from a mountain bike. Disc brake is probably best, but literally anything you get from a scavenged mountain bike will be better than what you have now.
Don't worry about the back brake for now. Your rear wheel is going to be a weak point anyway, so no sense in throwing money at something you will probably replace later. The rear brake is far less important than the front, anyway.

I recommend that you research what can be done with a moped hub, for your eventual rear wheel/sprocket/brake upgrade.

But again, don't throw your money away on a kit engine when you have a line on a 2 stroke 50cc dirt bike engine. That is probably the ultimate bicycle engine.

I think its an apollo but im not sure.as for the reason for the kit my landlady is refusing to sell me the dirt bike so im left here thinking screw it
 
In that case I would probably just get the kit.
Lol that's kinda what I'm thinking. Though does anyone have any ideas on a cheap light setup for a head light just so i can be visible? I've already got a taillight thats battery powered so id like something to get front visibility aswell
 
Its kinda like ebay or amazon but things come cheaper.
I just bought an 80cc silver engine kit from a seller on eBay for $69 shipped from USA. There are lots of sellers selling between $94-$100 right now.
The $15 I saved will help me buy replacement hardware, lol.
 
putting on the miles on mine, new parts came in today more coming, more work to do on bike, MZ pipe broke at the brazing weld again tonight, been doing 80 mile round trips daily, lately. 60 miles to half a gallon runs good.
