I'm after selling my 66/80cc bike. I looking at getting another and looking at
a little upgrade.

Would it be better to get a smaller sproket (36 teeth ) or a shift kit ???

Re: smaller sproket (36 teeth ) or shift kit

no opinion, but choice would depend on your weight, your budget, and whether your terrain has hills or not

i have never ever seen the need for a shift kit .

i can blow by my friend doug on my bike running a 44t rear and a fuly modded motor, he has a sbp shift kit a sbp x chamber and a fred head and i smoke him off the line and the top speed of our bikes is no differant... granted mine turns mutch higher rpms to get to 35+ than his does but because f the gearing of the shift kit its impossable for him to use all 7 gears and in gear 5 the gear he needs to be in to make top speed the motor is just plain not powerfull enough to turn the gears any faster or reach peak rpms...

about the only thing a shift kit is good for imho is if you want to do a lot of dirt trail riding and you will need to go slow and keeep the rpms up to put the power to the ground at a lower speeed.

then agian ... lol i can keep up with him on trails too as long as i time my throttle and keep the power where it needs to be, he just has a lot more hill climbing ability than me when he is in gear 1 or 2 at WOT !!!!

Depends what your after, shift kit is great for cruising, or as Roger said climbing.
The correct single speed sprocket for engine, rider weight, terrain, ect will likely net a better top speed as 1 chain is better than 3.
39 or 40t is often the best for general purpose, unless you have a worked motor and am after max speed.
I have 1 with 44t, heavily worked and wheel stands at speed.
1 with 39t, relatively stock, quiet, and a nice ride probably does 65 odd KPH
1 with 36t, Fully bombed, does about 90KPH.
and also a bike with a shift kit, fairly mild modifications and will also do about 65 odd KPH same as the 39t.
they all have there own rewards.
But unless you plan to heavily work the motor your not likely to get any more speed from a 36t than a 39, but will lose out on bottom end.

Get the sprocket, the shift kit isn't worth the money. But then again I would have to get the HD kit and thats twice as much..

OK, it a smaller sproket. My last motor had the standard kit with 44 tooth so it's either
a 39 or a 36 tooth sproket.
I'm 85Kg I need to get a bike so looking for a Aluminium Frame Hybred so that's about
8-10Kg.
I have a few big hills on my commute ( 32 miles round trip ) and my last motor had no porblems with the hills I cycle sometimes to give it a helpiing hand.

Which is better 36 or 39 Tooth I don't mind cycling to get up to cruise speed?

i would go with a 40 t rear on a 26 in wheel and add a high comp head or deck down a stock one, this along with some simple port matching and a port clean up with a file or dremal, mabey even a piston skirt trim on the intake side if your up to it and i asure you that you will net a higher speeed and more rpms than a stock bike with a 300$ shift kit !!!

you will also have pleanty of climb power and will probably be able to do wheelies at speed !

a 40 tooth and a moderatly modded motor is the way to go for a long lasting motor with all the power you need...

again unless you want to do some dirt riding and have large hills you will be hitting at high rpms in low gear than i personaly do not think the shift kit is worth the money,
