The Lysander very nearly didn't have it's career; it was designed as an army cooperation plane and spotter, and from memory, wasn't terribly well suited to it. Fortunately it turned out to be almost perfect for SOE missions across the Channel, being able to carry both a pair of passengers and a useful payload.

The Perseus engine was a sleeve valve with a low noise level as well, which is handy if you're trying to avoid unfriendly neighbours.

There is an SOE museum at Harrington, if anyone interested, in the English East Midlands, which is where many US and Norwegian missions were flown from (but not in Lysanders).

The Lysander looks like it was a heavy-duty Allied version of the German Storch.

I saw the Fire Engine restoration part of the series. Its a good one to watch. I was wondering how the water pump with the multiple pistons first moving water pressure to the round sphere on top actually smooths out the water pressure flow. Anyway it was neat to see the old engine pick up water from the lake in the end and spray it 40 feet up and away!
