Okay, sorry for no updates, but I've got nothing done, been too busy with other things.

On the bright side, I'm building a OCC chopper based bobber street fighter with a fast engine and an electric motard to play with. Selfish, I know, lol. I need to get out from underneath the pile of projects I have right now, maybe over the winter I'll work with track people to see what's possible.

I'm still down for a ride once I get the gas bike done, I don't think the electric one would have the range to keep up with the happy times :p

Let me know when your bikes done. There's a windy mountain road with very little or no cars on it. We can rip through it WOT for miles.

Hey if anybody wants to come out to West Marin and have a small GTG I'm down. Unfortunately I've only got an electric bike right now with a range limited to about ten miles, but the town I'm living in is wicked fun for motorized biking because of all of the small little twisty roads on the mountainside that make it like Cypress rally or a mini Monaco. It's really fun and makes these bikes seem more than adequately fast, the downhill parts are mega! I'd rather not have to try to pack the bike in my car to go somewhere, I need a pickup for these things but can't afford one right now.

I wonder if I'd be able to take the MX1000 apart and put it in a huge luggage container and take it on a plane to the So-Cal races. Probably not since security can't check it's a-hole, lol! I'm hoping that somebody can carpool from up here to the Grange race on October, I think that would be a lot of fun! I need to build something that would fit in a standard bike shipping container.

Of course I've been too busy trying to maintain a running bike and take care of life to organize anything this summer. I hope to have more time this winter to maybe get us on track next summer. I'm kinda disappointed at how moped and pocket bike racing has bit the dust up here recently, must be the economy, people are really hurting out there, myself included.

Cool, thank you! If I have to I'll take the electric pit bike and run in open class if you have one, for the fun of it.(p) I've only seen a guy on a whizzer around here, it would be great to see so many of the cool bikes on this forum.

Doesn't Easy Rider live in your area?
He is coming to the race.

I made a carpool thread in the Racing Forum.

Yes I do but my tiny car can only fit one bike , my pit crew (Dean) and the back seat is completely filled with my racing bag and stand. The truck is filled with work related stuff. If we took Dean's van it wouldn't be a problem but We usually take my company car.

It doesn't look like I'll be able to make it. F&^%&^$%$ school, gotta do a group presentation the following Monday. Thank you for your offer though, maybe next season I'll have the time. I was going to drift one of my cars this year but school has taken that out of the picture, and slowed the progress on the bikes. Ordinarily I'd say that it's more important, but the hiring situation out there makes my AS degree legit as a Kleenex.

You'll love my gas bike when I finally get down there, if I don't put pedals on it you'll see a lot of it as you run laps around me! :)

Good News!

Hey good news folks, I heard from a friend that they're letting YSR's and NSR's, motards, and scooters on the kart track for open testing on Monday nights at Sears Point. I'll see if I can gather all the details and post them here, and people local enough to get to the track can show up and run. If they're letting super pocket bikes run, I doubt you need a license.

I took my karting classes there and its a fun track. It's got tech tight stuff and fast ballsy flat out turns. I'm trying to figure out a way to get a corner of a shop at the track, to make building easier and to stay in the loop about potential open track days. The far paddock by turn 7 can be rented cheaply for skidpad sessions, we could rent it for racing around cones. I think that they have line dusters for mapping out a track.

There's some ideas, and I'm sick of talking to myself. Speak up if you want to have motor bicycle culture up here. If nobody shows interest I'll just go to the moped forum and see if they want racing. The thing is, when making race day policy, majority tends to rule, so a bunch of pocket bikes and mopeds and a few bikes will mean getting lumped in with their groups and dealing with whatever results. Different vehicles on track cause issues, something already being talked about in racing because there are bikes ranging from 1 to 10+ hp.

Doing racing run groups by a qualifying time for the race would work well to make the competition tighter in the races. The races could all be combined on track as subclasses, which will probably be required considering the response so far.

Speak up, Nor Cal racing!

Sonoma kart track testing is $60 per day per person. Half days are $40 and taking the last 2 hours is $25.

Here's the Schedule, it's barren, we can rent the track on days its open.
http://www.jimrussellusa.com/programs/karting/calendar

Supermoto practice seems to be a regular thing, jumping in with those guy will require about a 50mph top speed to be safe with traffic.

If we get enough people together pre-registered, we can have an event there easily.

Please express your ideas on this and if you think you can attend events. If enough people do, then I can take a petition to the track.

Huh, wow...

Really? Is the SF bay area so "green" that there's nobody active on here from the region with gas bikes?

Come on guys, it's easy to do if you at least let yourself be known!

Why yes, in between the corners it is! The straightaways aren't really that long except for the back fast section that leads onto the front straight. I don't think it would be fun on a happy time bike out there with NSR's and supermotards, but a Cagllari, 98cc 4 stroke, or Morini should have a fighting chance if it can get 50mph. The 125cc shifter karts with 6 speeds get about 100mph at the end of the front straight with about 40hp on a 200lb kart + driver. YSR's are supposedly good for about 70 but I can't see any 50cc accelerating to 70mph in that length of track, more like 50 mph. I think the 125cc Parilla ICC karts that I drove the track with got about 70mph at the end of the straight, and that was with a hooked-up run out of the last turn that no bike could match grip-wise.

Thank you for responding Easy Rider, the more people join this thread, then we can discuss other local tracks that can be rented easily or track time paid for. This one is just local to me and I'm kinda familiar with the people who run it if its the same people there from when I took the Russell karting classes. Anyways, it's cheap to get on the track and it looks like they don't discriminate against scooters on bike days. I don't think they'll kick you off track for being slow because there's tiny kids on their Comber karts buzzing around with 125 shifters on the same track during open testing.

I'm sure some of the local outdoor recreational kart tracks would allow us to rent out the track completely like a children's birthday party would, if we wanted a really tight and technical track that limited top speed to sub 40mph. There's one in Rohnert Park that's supposed to be pretty good, and we could obviously mess with rental karts too at a place like that. I'm sure they would be cool with it if it was conducted safely to their standard of safety equipment (helmet, lol).

If we wanted, we could always set up a cone and chalk track on the back paddock to whatever layout we want, and runoff wouldn't be an issue because it would be all pavement, somebody would just have to keep an eye out for off-tracks.

I'm in Sacramento and would like to see some type of get together, not necessarily a race. I'm more interested in meeting others and seeing what they have built, like a show and tell. I might be persuaded to race though.

How about we try to get an informal ride together after New Years?

My gas bikes aren't finished so I need some time. I was thinking that maybe a ride around Lake Berryessa would be great fun, and it's central to the North Bay.

I seriously doubt that there will be racing judging from the response. We could informally race on open track days, but I actually expect a much greater turnout of moped riders in the central SF Bay area due to the city's influence on moto culture with moped parts being so prevalent here.

Getting on track doesn't seem to be an issue at all, but getting everybody together in one place on the same day is going to be the biggest challenge. I would think that the opportunity to go racing cheaply would be a huge attraction in itself, but maybe there needs to be more incentive.

Treats?

When I get a chance I was thinking about leaving a petition at Treatland to see if moped riders are interested in track time. I think there is just a total lack of MB riders around here due to the local hatred for noisy small motored things. That has to be the explanation, either that or there's a whole lot of lurking and waiting for something to develop.

Riders wanted, it is your interest here which will motivate the racing series.

Did you get a chance to check out Stockton's kart/motorcycle track? That would be a good place to host an event.

I just checked out the website and that would be a great track for bike events. It looks really fast on the sections that go lengthwise across the track. I don't know anybody there, but I bet its easy to get track time at Stockton 99. Its good to have a bunch of tracks in mind because there might be unanticipated problems or whatever.

I wonder if there is anything going on at the kart track on the 99 Drift nights, because that would be a great event for exposure of the sport. Tons of people of all ages go to watch the drifting, and maybe they might be interested in watching bikes if we keep it interesting (fast!). :)
