Atom, scroll up this page and you will see it looks identical to the 99cc predator, not the old greyhound 79cc. And before you get an attitude, post pics and prove me wrong. Its called a predator, not a greyhound. Its black, not blue. All the specs are the same except bore and stroke. How does it look like the old motor?

d_gizzle,
No attitude, not sure what you mean by that?

Anyway, while I understand that the cosmetics of the engine are Predator, what I was saying is that things like the throttle linkage, choke lever, and many small details look just like the Greyhound. I have a Greyhound 79cc, they're good engines. But I was thinking that maybe the Greyhound and Predator are made by the same outfit. I.E as soon as the Predator engines appeared, the Greyhounds disappeared.

So it appears that maybe the 99cc Predator is being phased out by the 79cc, and the 79cc is a higher price than the old Greyhound 79cc.

Looks like a strategic pricing restructuring by Harbor Freight to elevate prices some.

I meant it as a joke but after reading how I worded that,I have to apologize good sir. My bad morning has nothing to do with you. That's good info on the 2 versions.

Do you or anyone else know whether AGK's parts will fit on the new 79cc? Muffler, mount plate,carb.,etc. That would be great.

No sweat and no apologies needed! And your train of thought regarding aftermarket parts is where I was headed...there are already a decent number of those kinds of parts available so it would be good if this new 79cc is a direct replacement for the Greyhound one. Two-three years ago the Greyhound 79cc was a pretty popular engine for many of us here, so I think there are a good number of them out there.

And I still think it's the only HF 4-stroke out there that is pass-able as a 49cc moped engine (for those of us that have to worry about being stopped).

Because if the new Pred 79 is replacing the 99, you don't have a choice when it's gone.
When I bought my Greyhound 79, it was being phased out for the Predator 99. Box specs aside, the new 79 is probably a lil cheaper to make.
Yup.....and prolly a little cheaper made ;)

Pat and I went to HF yesterday (last day fo parking lot sale) and I saw a lonely last one 212cc Pred. Seeing as how I need a crankshaft for my current 212cc ($50), I ended up leaving there with all the replacement parts and in running condition for just under $100 brand new. Honestly, how can ya beat that?

Cheaper than my last china girl by $40 and the upgrades for this engine are plentiful ;)

I just needed a new 4-1/2" angle grinder from HF and look what happened......happy b-day too me? I'm good with that laff

scotto- I also went to HF yesterday; am laying some hardwood flooring and my floor stapler crapped out, so I had to get a new one. As I walked into my local HF, there was a stack of around six 212cc engines on the right side of the door for $99... I resisted the temptation to buy....but now I am feeling that dread that you get when you start believing you missed the deal of a lifetime........ agh.

Yeah I know that feeling, that's why I rescued the last one left in the building.....I feel much better now ;)

I was looking at their website yesterday as well and it had the 212cc "Not for California" model listed as on sale so I was a little surprised to see they had any at all, at my location. I just couldn't pass it up as I have an "S" stamped on my forehead for "sucker". China, China, China.......whatcha gonna do? Got a new 4-1/2" angle grinder for 10 bux that I really did need. Now I feel even better.....no buyers remorse here!

I found this interesting: On page 6 of the owner's manual it states in bold print "Do not install this engine on a vehicle".
I wonder if HF is catching on?
if look on the box of the 99cc use on tillers, blowers, vacuums, water pumps, generators, minibikes.
on the box of the 79cc it said all the same except for mini bikes
