I'm guessing, from what I've read, that the ties are used to prevent cracking the CDI mounting tabs. Is that correct?
I just use them because they look better and don't scratch your paint. I always mount the CDI under the engine. I've never used a stock plug wire or cap.

Speaking of the plug wire/cap, I was watching a video about that, but it mentioned that the newer CDI units have a glued in wire that is not able to be unscrewed out of the housing. Do you know anything about that? Since I just received my kit, I am guessing this is one of the newer ones.
