Moped tires on bicycle rims

Ok I know others have used moped tires on moped rims, but can they be used on regular bicycle rims? I was thinking about the rims I am using on my AMF build. They are both 20" (16" real measurement), rear 20 x 4 1/4 & front another 20" wheel (maybe 2.5 or 3).

The 20 inch bicycle rim is the only one that can take a moped/ motorcycle tire it uses a 16 inch tire, just don't go crazy wide unless your rim is wiiide.

yup. 20" bike rims can take a 16" moped tire. i've used pirelli ml75's on a race bike. they're super cheap and an awesome tire.

they're about 3" wide so you need a good rim and plenty of clearance.

the simplex/servi-cycle 26x2.5 tires fit 26" bike rims as well
they are pretty pricey tho ($140 shipped)
I have one on the rear of my stretch and it seems to be wearing very slowly, even on my 140+lb tank
(the main reason I splurged on it ;))

azbill, please provide a link for those tires.

Update:

Never mind, az. I found a website:

Excellent! Now I don't have to spend hundreds & labor to create a 9-gauge motorcycle rim w/bicycle hub.

close to 1k so far :)
performance is where I got mine ;)
pulled a 3/4" thorn out of it yesterday,,,never reached the tube (^)

I have read they are hard to mount to an aluminum rim,,,
mine is a HD steel rim and I needed 3 tire levers to mount it

a lot of vintage motorcycles used 26" tires. Coker tire has a few, but as bill said, they ain't cheap...

Which model is the one you used Bill, I've heard some don't fit 26 in bike rims too well and it looks like I'm going with a 26 in for my sidecar.

57,,,
see if there is a coker tire dealer on the islands, they should be able to order it for you and maybe save a little on the shipping ;)

Would this tire work on my 20" x 4 1/4" (16" x 4" real life rim size) wheel?

Tire is 4 ply 90/80-16" tire made by Shinko (SR714)

90mm is roughly 3.5 inches, so it should fit. the tube should stretch it out wide enough.
